Never used the Cometics before but have them for my current build. I always sprayed copper on my Fel Pros, do the same with these or install dry?

Spray them. It will help with the seal around the water passages. Better safe than sorry.

I have always used copper spray on them. Make sure to let it get tacky before putting hg on.

Re: Copper Spray on Cometics?

I put mine straight on the heads and haven't had any issues in that regard. The point of the Cometics as I undertand it is that they need the RA50 smoothness finish to seal properly. Wouldn't adding copper sealant be at best unnecessary, at worst compromise the seal rather than help?

Re: Copper Spray on Cometics?

Just replaced both cosmetic gaskets on my 602ci big block race engine. I sprayed them with copper spray as did the builder who assembled it in the first place.

Re: Copper Spray on Cometics?

I take the gaskets apart and spray both sides of every layer. Seems fine

My :2cents:? Put on a set 2 or 3 years ago. Reused them once. Ran them clean both times with no issues at all. When the motor goes together this time I will do the same, but with new,

As mentioned surface must be RA50 smoothness and, of course, flat.

Re: Copper Spray on Cometics?

Ra50 is a number used to descibe how smooth the finish is on a machined part. So you shouldn't put them on something that doesn't have an ra50 finish.

Ra - Roughness average, most commonly expressed in micrometers (microns). This is the most universally recognized and used international standard of roughness measurements. It is the arithmetic mean of the absolute departures of a roughness profile from the mean line of the measurement. Ra may also be expressed in microinches.
