Converting '88 4x4 S10 Blazer to All Wheel Drive

Possibly a unique question?

From my limited knowledge of the SyTy powertrain, they originally used the Astro Van All Wheel Drive t-case and a front differential that did not have the lock/unlocking hubs like the 4x4 S-Trucks have.

My plan is to simply permanently lock my front differential and then use an early '90's Astro Van AWD t-case. However, I don't know anything about the AWD t-cases, and don't know if there is anything different about different years, or between the AWD Astro Van cases and the SyTy cases...

Are there any flaws in my plan? I'm putting a TPI 350 and 700R4 in the truck and have always wanted to have an AWD vehicle... The SyTy's are a little out of my budget and I wouldn't replace the Turbo'd 4.3L in the SyTy even if I had one!

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Scott

the syclone was the test bed for GM AWD devlopment. they had it first...but there is no reason you couldnt do this....change you regular Tcase to an AWD unit and you almost done..the regular 4x4 trucks have a device that engages the front axle...this is deleted in the syty's...you will either need to delete this and get and AWD half shaft or use a 4x4 pull cable and have it pulled all the time. NO GM IFS vehicle has locking or unlocking hubs...they are all perm attached to the front diff
