Compressed air

CO2 is carbon Dioxide, doesn't burn very well. Probably starve the spark out if anything.
You would need a majority of oxygen to help aid combustion.

Maybe hook some liquid oxygen tanks up, but that shit is way flammable.

What exactly are they talking about doing with the CO2?
Maybe you could use it as a cooler or something, but it wouldnt be beneficial for an intake substitute.

Dunno about liquid oxygen but pure oxygen doesnt burn either. It does, however, support and intensify (significantly) anything else that will support combustion. Ever tried to light a ocy/acetyline torch with just the oxygen turned on? It wont light no matter how hard you try. Put the same torch next to a open flame with only the oxygen still on and watch how the flame will intensify. Move it away and the flame goes back to normal but the torch is still not lit. Im not chemist but have had times of boardom in the garage to "play" with oxy/acet torches. :D

Sounds to me like they are after what is already available for just about any car out there. Nitrous. N20 is oxygen rich for intensifying the combustion process and a side benefit is the super cooling effect of the pressure drop of N20 when it goes from a liquid under extreme pressure to a gas at atmospheric pressure. Seems like just picking up a N2O kit would be a whole lot simpler than trying to reinvent the wheel. Whadda I know as Ive prolly done the same thing numerous times "just to see if it will work" :)

I believe it was Don Garlits (sp?) built a Nitro rail with a huge tank of compressed air on the front to use in place of the blower which on those cars the blower can consume somewhere in in the neighbor hood of 1000hp. It was an excellent idea but because it had ungodly hp potential, it was immediately banned by the sanctioning bodies.
