i think one of the Colorado guys is having his door handles shaved now.

Most owners dont wanna shave the trucks for a few reasons.

1. They dont wanna screw up the value of their truck

2. NHRA rules do not allow vehicles with shaved door handles to race unless you have a window net (and no window). Most SyTy owners like to race at least from time to time.

I figured #1, but never thought about #2. Good point :D .

Makes sense. T'would be hard to pull someone out of a truck if they were in trouble.

the most I'd do (as soon as I get a filler plate) is shave the back hatch handle...can still race at the track and it looks good...there's a pic of Brian Cox's ty with a shaved hatch handle on a post I made a week or two ago.

Maybe a dumb question, but what the heck:

How do you drop the tailgate if there's no handle?

Thanks,

The easiest/worst looking way would be to leave the tailgate cover off (that's how mine is right now.) But the mechanism to drop the gate is pretty easy, you just need to slide a bar towards the middle of the gate an inch or two. So anyway you want to be able to do it can pretty much be done, but you're going to have to cut out a small chunk of the tailgate cover.

you can get your tailgate on a popper like you would have in a show car with shaved handles. Or like they said you can go with the chunk of the cover cut out and have the reverse handle put in there. I have seen a few Lightning owners do that.

I was thinking about putting in an acutator to pop the gate, but was afraid that it would drop it right when it popped. Or do you think it would act like the window ie: popped but doesn't go up without your help...I just wouldn't want to pop it and have the gate come slamming down.

I was playing with actuators to see how I would hook one up to my rear gate, and the polarity in the wires switches :-? How the hell do you wire up something like that? I've heard that the solenoid that pops the rear glass can also pop the gate (you would need two - the factory one for the glass and a new one for the gate) but haven't found much info about it.

I had a blazer that was shaved.

The tailgate takes 3 solenoids.
1 for the glass and one on each striker.
At first I had one that pulled both strikers and it was way too weak.

Get the solenoids as close to the latch as possible.

I cut all the guts out of my tailgate to mount amps in so I had no problem fabbing up brackets to fit the solenoids in.

When the solenoids pop they unlatch the gate, but you still have to pull on it at the same time for it to drop.
No worries about it just flopping open.
You would need the spring loaded "door poppers" for that.

An FYI, I was locked out of my blazer MANY times, usually in the winter or the day after a car wash or heavy rain.
Shaved doors suck for a daily driver that sees elements.

Not a bad idea to wrap your solenoids with a rubber mat to keep moisture away from them should it get wet.
Another mod i didnt do until i learned the hard way.

I sent you a PM, I'm curious as to how you did all this...that's exactly what I want to do.
