Color for the Ty

1993 Typhoon #1005 to be painted in the next month or so. To get everyone up to speed with this project, it was purchased for $1000 last year and pretty much sat in my garage ever since. The tranny was bad and has since been completely freshened. A tree fell on the roof during a pretty serious storm prior to my acquisition. I have purchased a rust free and dent free roof and drivers door to bring the Ty back. I have also purchased a rust free rear tailgate. My wife feels as though we should keep the truck black/black for value/resale purposes but I'm thinking the Ty would look kick ass in synergy green (the candy apple green on the new Camaros) with grey cladding and triple chromed original wheels. Let's hear your thoughts? BTW, we will probably be keeping the Ty, not selling it.

If you plan on keeping it then do the custom! Besides its only paint and you can change it down the road if you ever wanted a different color.

If you really want to paint your Typhoon a non original color you own the perfect truck for it; one that's all black. I don't think you would be hurting your resale too bad, if at all, by not painting it black.

If your truck was factory Royal Blue or Garnet Red this would be a different conversation.

It sounds to me that you have made up your mind and that is what I would stick with. I say this because I also think this color would be sick as you have described it.
Paint it man!

Normally i hate green, but that sounds like a kick ass combo. if i remember right people said Epix was making a mistake repainting his ty orange, look how wrong they were. it's your truck do what suits YOU.

I like personal originality with syty's (there is always a story to them). I say paint it the way you want it. Different colored syty's are kick ass in my opinion

Re: Color for the Ty

Would that look good though with gray cladding? You have a photochop? I think it'd look badass done in the 1993 paint fashion... Cladding, "headlight pockets", and grille all the same color... but then again I haven't seen what your color option for the cladding is. Chrome stockers? or go for the upgraded 18" super stockers in chrome? I think you're gunna have one badass looking ty

Yes that's the color Eddie. That photo does the color absolutely no justice though. You almost need to have seen one in person to appreciate it. It's definitely worth a trip down to your local Chevrolet dealership if you have yet to see it. I will take before and after pics just to show everyone where this truck was actually at when I started. Leaning strongly towards the green though. Just sucks that if I do go with the green, I pretty much lose all thoughts of it being a sleeper. With a black Ty, I think you get the mentality from the average Joe that it is a Blazer with some ground effects.

If you are keeping it then a new color is good. The Camaro green to me would look good on the cladding as well.

Nah, with that green on there, people will just think you're driving a "blazinlow" low rider jimmy because typhoons dont come that color, plus that green is something that you'd see on a slammed 59 impala. The color will turn heads, but no ones going to expect an early 90's boxy blazer to run a 13...

Re: Color for the Ty

I hate you so much, I originally was going to paint one of my trucks rally sport green from the first gen Camaro with silver cladding. Then I saw this green and knew that was my new color choice. I actually have a gallon of it sitting at my paint jobber with a custom light silver right next to it haha.

Anyway enough with my complaining, are you planning to spray this yourself, or have a shop do it?

get it done. I like that color, I saw a green camaro and said that would look cool on a mini truck.

Re: Color for the Ty

I prefer stock colors over custom colored anythings. But that is just me. I'm kinda boring and like the way anything OEMish (new word!) looks.

And that even includes Harleys! I know...:screwy:

Re: Color for the Ty

My buddy just color changed a 95 Lightning to that same color. I replicated the factory decals in flat black and added a flat black hood stripe and it looks great. Especially with a heavily damaged ty that was bought for $1k, I say change it.

Stock sucks.

I don't really care what color you paint it, but if you should need another trans, I still have the one you wanted so badly strapped to a pallet ready to ship to you...... thanks.
