Code 59 question

I know that the 3 bar map sensor is needed, but does the chip need to be changed to 3 bar as well? Or does it not matter because of piggybacking and downloading bins? Don't recall reading about it unless it is just understood. Thanks...Jim

You'll need a wideband O2 integrated into the ECM. Code59 is a system built for 3bar use. About a month ago I posted a thread that listed all the parts and pieces needed to make the chips plug into the ECM, etc. I think if you do a simple search you'll find that thread.

Re: Code 59 question

Rob, Already have PLX installed EXACTLY as shown in very detailed post. Also have Hood's stock 2 bar chip with WB patch and egr delete. Read your post many times and looked at the Moates links you provided. Many thanks for that. Unless I missed it. Actually, between that post and Hood, a tuner, telling people to tune themselves, I decided to go 59. Just need the last piece of the puzzle. Thanks...jim

Re: Code 59 question

Hi Jim,
If you download a starter BIN off of the Code59 site it will be set up for 3bar. Then it will be a matter of getting it fine-tuned to your setup. Is that what you were wondering??

You can send me a PM and I'll try to help you out as best I can.

Re: Code 59 question

To run code59, you just need the hardware, tunerpro, and a bin. A wideband is highly recommended, but optional (though you already have that done). For you, you would just need to get an emulator (Ostrich, AutoProm, Romulator, etc...) to upload the bin to, Tunerpro to edit the bin and upload it, and a starter bin. You can run code59 with minimal hardware (32k based eprom and a burner), but it's well worth the investment to get an emulator as to not have to erase and reburn eproms (plus you lose the ability to tune on the fly and emulate).

Like Rob said, just grab a starter bin and it will be setup for 3bar and if you need any help, I too am all ears.

Thanks guys. Yes that was my question. Don't need a 3 bar chip if using 59...Jim

Nope the hardware/bin will supplement the eprom part of the memcal you have now. The only thing borrowed from the stock memcal in a piggyback orientation is the ESC circuitry (the circuit board under the gel coating opposite the eprom). The emulator will combine that borrowed circuitry, combine it with the bin file that you upload and the ECM will see all of that properly.

Since the eprom is emulated, it doesn't matter what's burnt onto the piggybacked chip (stock, 3bar, KB, ATR, blank, a hex code picture of Jeff Scott nude, whatever....)
