Code $59 Help

Sy#1313

When all else fails, Forc
Hey guys,
I have owned Sy#1313 for over 10 years now. Been running the Ultimate for the past 9.
I now have everything to run Code $59, can connect everything up, and even get the truck to run. That's the good news.
Bad news, it is running super rich (despite my narrowband O2 saying I'm good) and idling at about 1400. I have a PLX wideband that has NOT been installed yet. I have not even tried to drive the truck as it feels 'funny' now. With the Ultimate installed, it runs like a champ.
Looking for someone in the LA area that could give me a hand understanding Code $59 and how to begin tuning with it.
Anyone out there with any advice? It will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Code $59 Help

I probably wouldn't bother until you have the PLX patched to the ECM and wb02 completely installed....I'd also suggest keeping the stock 02 in place and adding the plx 02 sensor at least 2feet down stream from the stock 02 location. .G/L.

Re: Code $59 Help

Nello,
Thanks for the heads up. Figured that might be an obstacle. I am planning on drilling/welding in a separate bung for the WBO2 just to keep stock drivability, as well as have the stock chip & 2 Bar in the glove box just in case.
Just trying not to screw up my baby, ya know?
Still looking for someone in the area to help get her dialed in. Anyone around here?

Re: Code $59 Help

a wideband is a necessity for Code59 to work. If you post datalog files and your bin, someone can walk you through it.

Re: Code $59 Help

I had noticed that there were no flags for narrowband, just an assortment of widebands, and figured that it might not be compatible. Guess I gotta find time to remove the downpipe to install the WB bung and patch into the ECM.
I've never actually removed the dp. How much of a pain is the job? I'm also assuming there is no gasket between the turbine housing and dp.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Code $59 Help

Get one welded on at an exhaust shop... Place it 30 inches down from the factory o2.... Worked out great for me and if I ever take it out I just plug it up. And you don't get the upper part of the Dp boogered up.

Re: Code $59 Help

So, I got the O2 bung welded up. Where did you guys run the cable for the O2 through the firewall? I'd like to avoid drilling any additional holes, but I do have grommets, just in case. Was going to velcro the PLX Box to the top inside of the glove box, or right behind the back panel in the glove box, for stealth. The less holes I'm drilling, the better.

On a separate note, I am relocating the battery and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on how to mount the battery to the passenger inner frame rail. Specifically the mounting platform; drilled and bolted to the frame, or straight welded on?

Im in the South Bay. I use PLX DM6 and Tuner Pro RT.

I can help you get started. Send me a PM

1st hook up your plx. If you need extra ECM connectors, I have a bunch left over.

This was my install. Step by Step. With directions.

Worked great.

Watch the tutorials. I watched it so many times i lost count. I did not start to understand it until I actually hooked up my laptop and started tuning two years ago.

I ran my WBO2 wiring through the fresh air vent on the passenger side fender. I did get small amount of water in my interior in a heavy rain storm (on the way to the Nats this year)

Re: Code $59 Help

As I am in L.A., I am not too worried about the rain/water, but jaystcb's idea is just what I was looking for. I hadn't pulled the carpet up yet, but the radio antenna spot is almost perfectly where I would want to route it. jaystcb, I'm going to send you a PM. I would love a hand getting rolling once I get this hooked up. Thanks for the support and direction guys. After 10+ years of using her as a DD, I am stoked to finally use her for what she was built for.

Re: Code $59 Help

This is my basic list to start tuning. It worked for me. If anyone has a better way. Feel free it pick my advice apart. Thanks.

1) tuner pro installed on laptop with correct bin file, xdf file, and adx file. I used Starter Bin, XDF File-Code59_3Bar_1.6_V25 TP5, ADX file-code Code59 .8 Beta TP5 only
2) chip adapter. I use a GP1 kit from moates.
3) ostrich 2.0
4) obd1 Aldl to USB cable
5) wide band o2 sensor and gauge.
6) 3 bar map sensor.
7) ecm connectors and a soldering gun.

When I installed my PLX o2 sensor. I ended up running my O2 sensor wire up, over, and zip tied to my antenna wire. I followed the antenna wire all the way down and through the fire wall using the existing grommet for the antenna. Easiest way to do this is remove the fender well. The first time I tried to install the o2 wire. I ran it straight back right through the fire wall and my down pipe melted the wires and killed my truck.

Setting up your laptop to read your OBD1. This can be a PITA.
1) plug in you usb aldl cable to your truck and your laptop.
2) turn you ignition to the on position.
3) on your laptop. (i use xp) Go into your port settings, under USB and change it to COM PORT1.

Set up tuner pro.
Turn on tunerpro. under the PARAMETER TREE. open FLAGS. The first 9 flags are for your wideband. make sure they are all off except for the one marked PLX WB. should be 4th flag down. Everything else should be set.

Setting up your laptop to read the ostrich. Follow the above procedure but change it to COM PORT2. do not use same comport # as aldl. wont work.

Linking your laptop to you truck.
1) with ignition off
2) tunerpro off
3) usb aldl cable connected to laptop and truck
4) ostrich cable connected to laptop and truck
5) turn truck to on position. Do not start.
6) start tuner pro.
7) there is an icon with 2 arrows on it. That is to connect your truck to read aldl. Press that icon. At the bottom if the screen there will be a blue icon that reads connected. If it reads connecting. un plug the aldl cable from your truck and plug it back in. That usually works. If not. play with your PORT SETTINGS.
If it did. Open your gauges on tuner pro. you will see a gauge called TPS on the dash screen. press the gas pedal. that gauge should move.

Now you can start your truck.
1) There is an icon that look like a chip right under ACQUISTION. That icon allows you to enable/disable emulation (send code to your ecu from ostrich). Turn that on. when it is on. It will light up blue.
2) There is a icon that looks like a chart with a red arrow. That will allow you to enable/disable data tracing. Turn that on.

Start Tuning.

1)Open the PARAMETER TREE. under TABLES. scroll down to FUELING. select (F29x) This is your main fuel table. These BINs have been proven to work. But might need a little adjusting. On the top left of the table is a blank square. select that square. It will allow you to change every table on the chart at one time. Put a value of 1. in the value box at top center of screen. press EXECUTE. watch your PLX WIDEBAND change. now put a -1. in the box. Watch your PLX WIDEBAND change. Try to get you truck to idle with an AFR around 14.7. This is a good starting point. From here you can start selecting cells that need to be changed for your application. Work on this fuel map for a while. Try to record a file. drive around. Dont try to tune and drive. You will crash your truck. When you are done recording make sure you name it. or it will not save.

Re: Code $59 Help

On another note. I recently picked up a Burn2 and chipped my truck. :) Now I just need to make another chip to pass smog.

Re: Code $59 Help

QuinnSy, yes, that was right after I got her.
jaystcb, I have two chips just for that reason. On that note, I have still been unable to get the ALDL connected to TunerPro RT. Do you think it would be of benefit to just burn your .bin using my Burn2 and putting it directly on my adapter. I could still use DataMaster in the interim to monitor everything, but since we changed the COM ports, I have to figure out how to change DM to the new port designation, ha.
Hope to get some time to play with all of it within a week or two.
Thanks again for the help

Re: Code $59 Help

2 questions. First, I'm assuming this is the same way to wire up an AEM wideband? Second, do you have to wire the ground to the ECU as well? Does it help at all if you do?
