SYCOSIS
Got a Code 43 this morning when I got on it a little bit.

Code 43 - Electronic Spark Control - The esc retard signal has been on for to long or the system has failed a functional check

Does this mean the knock sensor is bad? I know it takes the knock sensor out of the loop but why? Bad knock sensor? I'll check for other codes tonight.

It could be a bad sensor, loose wire, shorted wire, etc.... If you have a scan tool, turn the ignition on, link up, and gently tap the block with a hammer.. You should see the knock count go up with each tap... If it doesn't then there is a problem...

The ECM actually checks the ESC system by over-advancing the timing under 1st load and looking for some knock.. If it doesn't hear any it throws a code...

Same here. It was the Knock Sensor. It could be the cable. Check the wire first and clean the connector. Otherwise replace the KS.

Changed the knock sensor today. That was the problem but what a b;tch to put back in! Not looking forward to ever doning that again. I had to remove the cap,rotor and coil. Used a 22mm deep socket, one swivel and a long wobble extension to remove and install it. The biggest problem was getting it in and starting the first few threads. I dropped it a few times but finally got it in.

Nothing is easy with these trucks. Unless you think it's a sport to waste money..
