Fist and formost check your front end, particulairly the upper and lower ball joints. The proper way to do this is to jack up each side under the control arm as close to the lower ball joint as possible. Then get some type of bar(crow bar) and lift up and down between the bottom of the tire and the ground. Get some one to watch the upper and lower balljoints while doing this and make sure there tight. If alls good, check torsion bar mounts and see if the rubbers have separated. Also check transmission mount for torn rubber. Check rear driveshaft ujoints for any play, hold the yoke steady and turn the driveshaft and see if theres any play in the joint. couple things off the top of my head. Fern

have had upper and lower ball joints changed front suspension checked and re alined front prop ony moving about eighth of an inch as is the rear , but havent looked at trans mount. have a gut feeling could be front brakes releasing on checking w/shop manual ,somthing about squeezing pad lugs. its not the shocks as i removed them today, and struggled to get them back. will check back later.

I am getting a clunking sound also, but it only appeares when I go over a bump in the road and I felt it in the floorboard. It started about 2 weeks ago when a friend of mine told me that the passenger side was lower than the drivers side height. I adjusted the torsion bars accordingly to even out the ride height then I had it aligned. Asked the guy who was doing the alignment to check everything to make sure it was all tight ( ball joints etc.) he said there was just a little play in the wheel bearing but nothing to worry about just yet and everything else was good. So through doing a search I thought it might be the torsion bar support mounts. Today I put in a set of Mog's, the ones that were in there didnt look bad at all but I changed them anyways. Took it for a drive and I still get the same noise and bump in the floorboard. Is there anything else I can look at? Thanks. :-?

Is it clunking especially when putting a little torque to the ground? A bent transmission cross-member can add a couple of degrees of skew in your tranny can cause a thump/groaning sound. Feels like someone tapping on your floorboard... but you can't really pinpoint where.
Mine started doing this after I bottomed out semi-hard one night.
Torsion bar mounts could also be the cause. When your truck is parked, lay down beside it, and push up on the torsion cross member as hard as you can. If it seems like it's flexing a little bit, the rubber could be torn. Try both sides. If it clunks more when you're turning right, the left torsion bar mount could be broken/torn, and vice-versa for the right.

My typhoon is doing the same thing. If I come to a quick stop at a light and then when I accelerate, I hear and feel this clunk noise. Also before I accelerate, if I hold the brake as if I was launching you hear the same thing, but when I accelerate from the light you don’t here anything. I am also getting some tapping on the floorboard and cannot pinpoint where it’s coming from like what DynaGlide was saying. After what DynaGlide said about a bent transmission cross-member it came to my attention when I was putting on a polyurethane trans mount, I had the mount bolted to the trans, but when I lowered it to the cross-member it wasn’t sitting flat as if something was at an angle. I think one side of the mount was about 1/8in gap and the other side was on the cross-member. So I was wondering if the cross-member was bent a little. Also I just put on new torsion bar mount from the dealer. Any help would be awesome. This tapping and clunking noise is driving me crazy. Thanks
