Cladding

My cladding is pretty decent- Aside from the fact that my truck was a desert truck and the rockers are literally abrasive grit blasted. Thing is everyone who "sees" truck says You got to paint these things- or Theres mold growing on them- got to take care of them- armorall them.

Yea I can see there is some sun fading on a few parts- and the way the water left drip marks down the one piece looks like alge or mold- Not that bad-

Im hesitant to even put anything on them. armorall- was reccomended ARDEX?

I know they are matte black factory. Some GMC guys just paint them black with the truck.

Should I worry about it or is there something I really want to put on them? I do have a oil problem and it made its way to back bumper and theres little oil spots everywhere. I washed and washed and shit soaked in and looks horrid.

Re: Cladding

Painting them will ultimately eliminate any stock plastic problems, but I would try multiple applications of Mother's Back to Black. Put a lot on, the wipe excess. Wait a bit, then apply liberally again. I would even apply it again a few days later. The trick to apply evenly, almost like paint. It might even darken the very light area ("rock").

For cleaning it first, simple green, especially for oily spots. After you clean it, it might even look worse...but then hit it with back to black.

Re: Cladding

Back to Black works great, but takes a lot of applications and a lot of time. From what I can see it will bring that cladding back without a problem.

Re: Cladding

Needs painting, everything else will just be temporary and will cause problems when you finally give up and paint them anyway.

Re: Cladding

i've used armorall before and I didnt think it looked all that great. The best product I have used for the cladding is the meguiars gold class wax. Put it on just like you would the paint. darkens it some but stays looking nice for a awhile

Re: Cladding

I buffed and waxed mine. If that does not work paint it. I would stay away from silicon product.

Re: Cladding

If u do plan on painting it stop using products that contain silicon or else the paint work will fish eye and cost many man hours at the paint shop to get right

I dunno about that. When stuff fisheyes at work, it usually doesn't take us very long to fix it. Then again, it's usually only in one or two spots, not every single panel. Sanding fisheyes out with 600 doesn't take that long, if you know what your doing. Now if it keeps trying to fisheye after that, it's a whole different story.

Re: Cladding

go to a Harley dealer and get a German product called S-100, I believe it is for black pastic around motorcycles and works well.

Re: Cladding

went to local harley dealer and looked over the s 100. I mentioned something to my dad about it and he said its good stuff. (he sold his bike a few years back) But Claimed its real good stuff. I went to the place and looked it over. I didnt really like how it looked like a cream. I exlplained to the guy what I was trying to do as I parked my truck valet at the dealer. When I pointed out and showed him he understood. He directed me towards a product called pig spit.

I cleaned the cladding real good.

Re: Cladding

Get a product called forever black. It is a permanent dye that brings back a nice stock black color. It is fairly easy to apply and works great. I use it in my business all the time.

It looks like you painted the cladding! Pig Spit worked that good? Did it look that good after it was washed the 1st time or did you have to appy it again??
