cladding rivet

Re: cladding rivet

My front bumper had these white o-ring spacers on the rivets that were between the cladding and support. Almost like a buffer to keep the bumper from gouging into the support. Cladding had never previously been off my truck.

Might have been something on earlier VIN trucks?

I was planning on getting some small rubber/plastic bushings, or even some bigger metal shims to just spread the pressure out over a larger area.

Thanks for the heads up!

My white washer o-rings were to the inside of the hole, on the back of the bumper cover as to act like a rivet backing to help protect the urathane cover. My rivets were an aluminium, so I don't know if it was original.

Re: cladding rivet

I have a hydraulic rivet gun I use for snowmobile collision repairs. Never counted how many rivets are on a bellypan. It's packed away somewhere. Do they even still make them. Makes a big job very tolerable. Air would be the next choice.

Helped rebuild a couple of sleds. Used the blue colored deluxe air rivet gun from harbor freight. The reason why I went and bought my own. Used it exclusively on the ext cab Sy project. It has never failed. Well worth it so far.

I had these on a front bumper I took apart too, but they were on the inside where the rivet comes through the metal support. I figured it was to cut down on wear on the plastic rivet through the metal support. That's where I put them back when I put the new rivets in. Not sure what truck this cover came off of, so can't help on the earlier VIN thing.
