Cladding repair

I Love My Ty's
I have a driver rocker cladding that is broken in 7 pieces. I thought it would be a good time to see if I could figure out how to repair this stuff. Yesterday I broke out the plastic welder and welded two big pieces togather.

Would it work better to epoxy the small pieces that are from the top of the rocker? Its the section that pop rivets at the door seal area.

My brother has been playing with plastic welder himself. The rods you get didn't work for him, but finding scrap material of the same stuff he said has worked very well.

I have had good luck with 2 part epoxy type glues made for just this stuff.

Look on the wall on the right hand side. It's a little hard to read.....

I haven't done any plastic repair in a long time but I would be glad to help.

If I remember correctly it is urethane that the instructions say to use on our plastic. It seems to work when both pieces touch that are being welded. But any gap it is weak. But that may be my welding ability. I bet the scrap plastic works good. I picked up a bumper cover a few months ago. But at the time I didn't know our plastic type. I am gonna have to see what type it is.

I am going to have to order some epoxy. The auto parts places here don't have it.

Talk to PJs97Talon about the epoxy. He sells that kind of stuff.

Keller's Body Shop....It was our family business. I've been retired from that kind of work for awhile (notice that the sign is INSIDE the garage) but I would love to help. I plan on working in the garage this weekend so call me. I need a little Code59 help myself.

Ive been welding abs motorcle fairings for awhile. Its a toss up if it will hold, the best way is too weld up piece mesh tape over cracks and epoxy

It can be fast curing. The pieces left won't take long to place. It will need to be easy to sand. The plastic type is TPU. I don't know if that info helps or not.

It looks like some pieces it is better to use epoxy and others its better to weld. And I think the ones that are left to get this rocker back togather. I would rather use epoxy on them.

This old cladding sure is brittle.

It has taken awhile to get the hang of welding this plastic. But Its getting easier to work with.

Is there a paint remover product that can be used on cladding? Or does the paint need to be sanded to completely remove it from the cladding?

You can try aircraft remover but I'm not sure if it would attack the plastic or not.
