check engine light

i have recently bought a sy and it is slightly modded as far as i know.
but the problem is my check engine light comes on and stays on but when it comes on it seems like the engine is stressing and there is no power when i give it gas.
is there anyone that could give me a hand on what could be the problem.

could be egr, my truck seems to burp when it comes on and runs like shxx when it's on, can you find out what number the code is?

Welcome, you must use the search feature or else you'll tick people off.

First thing you must do is get the codes from your truck. If you don't have datamaster then you should get it or have someone around you run it for you. But for right now you could jumper the terminals on the service port. Check this out it should help you http://www.sytyauthority.net/ click on tips and then click on the trouble code tab.
