Center console - Higher armrest

I find it gets uncomfortable in the Sy on long commutes because the center console is so low. Is there any consoles available with a higher armrest or a way to extend the existing one?

could probably make it custom. The hardest part I think would be matching the texture of the pastic. Youre only talking like an inch or two right?

Yeah at least 2". I am 6'3" so its below my elbow quite a bit.

in my 93 s10 the center console is higher and the color matches perfect with my 92 ty. I would try to look for one like it.

why not carry a small foam pillow to put on the armrest.. while not using it you could put it behind the seat.

Yeah that may be a good temporary solution. I would like to eventually solve the problem if at all possible. I like the idea if getting a 93 console so I can retain the stock one in its original state.

When I bought my Sy, it had a custom built armrest made with the same material as the seat covers. When it's installed, it looks really good, and is alot more comfortable. Unfortunately there's a few things I didn't like about it. It made it alittle harder to shift, cause it sat higher than the top of the shift knob. You can't open the center console without removing it. And whenever you did remove it, it put stress on the console lid. It started weaking my console lid, so I just now leave it off. I have picts of it, but I need to find a place to upload it onto the web so I can show you guys. I'm not sure if I want to sell it or not. I guess it all depends on how much I can get for it.

What about moving the hinge to the back of the console instead of the side, so it just flips up?

That's from my '93 S-10 Tahoe 4x4 ext cab. It's got the same lid, but it sits up higher. It angles down in the front. There's a cupholder (made out of a more flexible material) that snaps into the console in front of the angled parts. The papers in the pic are stuck between the angle on the console and the cupholder. I'm not sure how well you could use something like this in a SyTy though, since it ends right at the cupholder and the S-10 is a column shifter.

If you were really good, you might be able to graft the taller console part from an S-10 onto the back part of a SyTy console.

This is what I was about to suggest. Had one from a '93 Jimmy in my '91 S-Blazer daily driver. Worked great, but would need surgery to mate with a SyTy front section.

In my 1st Ty, I had a CD changer under the center console. That raised it about 4 inches in the back. I made brackets to raise the front (and the shifter) about 2 inches. I liked the higher position.
