Carbon Fiber Trim

It isn't that hard to make, especially flat pieces like that. It gets much harder when you get into molds and such.

I'll go into much more detail if you want.

Go ahead and go into detail, i'm sure others would like to know..

I just did a quick search on google and found I can get a rigid sheet of CF 11x8" for $15.. should be enough for a project like the above link.

For pretty much one time use, your best bet will be to buy the premade sheets like you found. You can cut it with a dremel cutting wheel, and it will cut just like plastic. Be sure to wear a respirator when cutting it though, because that shit will mess you up bad. For extra clean cuts use masking tape where you will be cutting. For the thinner stuff you can also use tin snips and masking tape, which I have found make cleaner cuts if you can use them. Sometimes the carbon is too thick for them though.

The BEST carbon fiber is pre-impregnated, or prepreg. It is basically the carbon fiber sheet presoaked with the exact amount of epoxy needed and then tossed into an autoclave (very expensive pressure cooker). Because it has the perfect amount of epoxy it is much stronger than the homemade and vacum sealed. Race cars use prepreg and the body of the Maclaren F1 street car is prepreg.

To make plain carbon fiber at home this place carries all the supplies...

I think that would be a little to much bling for me. Now, if someone made the gauges like that. Kinda how a C5 Z06 face looks (although, I think thats more checkered, but you get the idea) that would look nice!

Heres a pic of a Z06 gauge cluster incase anyone wondered.

Can you explain how you made those? Did you fiberglass the original and use that as a mold, directly use an old cluster, vacuum form, etc?

Hydro Illusions uses a patented Water Transfer Printing process to transfer color and patterns onto virtually any object: Usually, if it can be painted it can be printed; wood, metal, glass, plastic, ceramic and much more.

WATER TRANSFER PRINTING

The elasticity of the transfer ink follows each contour and gives even intricate three-dimensional objects a “made-from” look. Final application of high gloss or silk finish automotive clear coat provides a durable and attractive finish.
The art of the transfer and the repeatability is dependant on the expertise and care of the skilled Hydro Illusion technician.

Δ Individual and limited run projects can be accommodated with our regular facilities.
Δ We can provide estimates and develop procedures for larger items and long-run projects.
Δ Custom designed patterns are also available.

Water transfer printing can be applied to virtually all products

Im not a huge fan of fake carbon, but to be honest the stuff Tom (Hydra Illusions) does is a very nice finish. It works surprisingly well on stuff I wouldnt think it would look good on.

I'll put up pics of the work Hydra Illusions does...

If anyone remembers ChromeBoy, this truck has it done and now resides in my garage.

I can take pics of:

Upper fan shroud
Rear Wing
Wiper Resovior Bottle - currently out of the truck, easy to take pics

Please do, I had never heard of this before today.

by tomorrow I'll have them up.

I'll agree with Ian.. im not a fan of fake CF, but I gotta say at even a close distance of 2ft, the Hydra Illusion looks real, which is really impressive seeing how about $300 worth of the real stuff is just inchs away on a roll in my garage.
