Camaro SS

White 97ish style SS. Caught a light......a little aside here....I finally have the TY on the road...drag radials all around on stock rims. Boost gauge wasn't working, but I hardly spooled at all and broke them all loose......back to the story.....I crushed him without mercy off of the line and thereafter. I slowed up to see the look on his face = priceless. We went again from a 30 or so roll, and I walked away again. Very happy, but I CANNOT hook up for a good launch. I have a lot of power, but drag radials on good pavement and very little boost, and I still spin them. How do you guys with monster motors launch at all??!

My truck was modded mostly before I got it. Bigger turbo (hybrid, so I can't tell what size....but big) A2A, 40# injectors, DFI, double-pumper, roller rockers, high stall converter (I don't think it's a 9/11...higher stall) and some more little stuff. The truck is very stiff now after lowering, Konis, and redoing most of the front end and adding a rear swaybar. The drag radials make a difference, but I want to launch hard. Going to add an alky kit, get rid of the cat, and have Dig tune it soon.

Who's DR's are you using, Nitto of BFG's?

Once I get my Sy back from McCoy's I figure the Original Firehawks ain't gonna cut it anymore. :)

Nice, no wonder you smoked the SS. I know what you mean about the stiff ride. I have Konis (softest setting), 2" drop in the rear, PST front-end kit, and I'm installing Hamann 18's with 255/35/18 tires this week. I have a bad feeling my truck is going to feel like it's got rocks for wheels  I can smoke all four tires too with a 10psi launch but I don't do that much 'cause it's hard on the drivetrain.

I'm running Nittos 245/50/16 all around. They actually soften the ride being so soft and all. I have my Konis set at the 2nd stiffest setting front and back and it's lowered 2.5-3" all around. I don't think the stockers (firehawks) will cut it either after a trip to McCoy's. The only other option I see is wider wheels/tires or caltracs. What size wheels are you big motor guts running?

Thanks! I plan on retaining the stock wheels, but was thinking of trying the BFG 255/50/16 Drag Radials, but w/ my McCoy Stage 3 Vortec'd, 72 Turbo'd Supermotor, I dunno if it'll matter.

You're going to need to buy them in bulk. How well do you hook up now? I see you're running damn near 11's. Is traction an issue for you?

That run in my sig was on the stock motor w/ bolt-ons. KB Jimmy2 turbo w/ external gate set at 20psi, KB air2air, KB 9/11 3600 stall converter, exhaust, intake, ATR Fuel Pump and AFPR, KB STRIP CHIP  (Disclaimer: PRE-computer days - I only knew of KB,ATR, and Conley) . I was leaving the line at 2000rpm/NO boost. Got out I'd say 10-20 feet and busted the azz end loose to the right, then the front left tire spun a bit too and pulled some to the left. Hell, I just held on and mashed it. Still ran a 1.7x 60'.

Before that I tried launching w/ boost. Like 13psi or so! Real messy - spun all over the place. Plus I'm sure it's tough on parts, so that $hit stopped right there!

Really don't know WTF I'm gonna do for traction when I get the truck back? It's been at McCoys since last October though, so I really don't care either. I just want it BACK HOME!! One step at a time. :D

I just bought Randy Gilberts Sy. Its a T72, super motor, stage 3 vortec's, etc etc etc. The truck has the zr1 17x9.5 on front w/ 245 45 17 and 17x11 315 35 17 BFG GFORCE TAs  . with like 1 or 2 lbs of boost, the truck will give a nice "puff" off the tires, but hook up fairly well, blacktracking for about 30 - 40 feet, but still pulling like a mofo  . Anything around 5 lbs or up and the truck spins hard, real hard, it feels alot slower out of the hole that way. I have only attempted that once for fear of mass destruction under the truck.

Hey Tom!
So how are you liking the truck, any problems to speak of?

And do you plan on getting some timeslips with it soon? I for one am very curious. :D

The truck has been great so far, and boy does it move! Ive only had minor problems, which have mostly come from one major one. Randy had a new starter on it, and the heat shield broke off and shorted to the hot lead, melting the battery inside the box. My dad and i are engineering a propshaft loop for it, just in case. We're also doin some minor tuning, then shes goin to the track. I will definatley be posting track info, ive been told alot of people are interested. Should be good. My dad has had a couple race cars. An 11 sec Chevelle, a full drag 55 Chevy that went mid 9's, and were in the process of building a mid 7 sec 74 Vega. He rode in the truck, and his "butt dyno" says definate mid 11's and that was only at 12 lbs.

You can get a front propshaft loop here:

http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/

Just scroll down the left side for Phil C's loops. I just bought one and sent it to McCoy to put it on my truck.

Your Dad sounds like our kinda maniac! :D I'll be looking for mid-11's on pump gas too, but I don't think it'll be quite as quick as yours. Quick enough though!
