I was going to say the same.
One 4" pipe is closer to, two 3" pipes.
So really one 5" inch downpipe is really flowing like a 4" inch downpipe because of the neckingdown/flow restriction,. down to two 3" pipes.
I think for two pipes to flow as good as one 5" inch pipe, you would need two 3.750-4" pipes or there abouts..
I am not good w/math but my friend is.
Or you can post your mathematical formula here.

Thanks for the nice comments...> I've been working on the 82-92 body style with suspension and chassis for many years. This is the last design of rear suspension and cage ect. There were many before this car that were experiments leading up to this one.
The Buick engine is a great powerplant for these cars. Great blend of room, driveabilty,dependability,power and low noise.
Most guys with stage2 engines in their buicks only use a 3.5" downpipe which will easily support and flow enough to run 8-9sec cars. Only recently has this 5" adaptor come out.
I just wanted to see if I could do it :rotf:
5" is way more than I need with the current short block I'm running. I just like to do the work one time. When I build the Stage engine everything will be ready for it.
Under the car there is a splitter that go's to duel 3" with Dyno Max Ultraflow mufflers.
The last Buick engine that was in the car was nice and quiet. I hope the large downpipe does not increase the noise level. I tend to like my stuff quiet.
You can hear the Spal fan's over anything else!
I'll have the core support and pipes finished up this week... bodyworked and painted.
I'll snap some more pictures of that.

My heads have not returned from Webber Racing in Ohio.... There was other damage that I was not aware of so they are taking care of that also.
Here's the core support painted. I've got a couple odd's and ends to finish but i'm almost stuck till I get the Heads back
Might get to put the 61dbb turbo and fabricate the down pipe on the wife's Typhoon this weekend... (crossing fingers) :tup:

As usual your work looks pretty cool. Its hard to tell in the pic but it looks like you smoothed out the welds where the piping goes through the support. Was this just acheived by welding/grinding over and over or did you use some sort of filler and just bodywork it?

Two 3" pipes are about 25% less than the 5"... a considerable difference if you ask me.

BTW... one 5"pipe is nearly equal to two 3.5" pipes
The cross sectional area of a 5" pipe is 19.635 sq inches
The cross sectional area of a 3.5" pipe is 9.62 sq inches (x2=19.24)
The cross sectional area of a 3" pipe is 7.07 sq inches (x2=14.14)
To equal a 6" pipe you would need FOUR 3" pipes
