buying a syclone...

Hey I found a pretty good deal on a syclone that has the motor removed from it but it still comes with the truck. What type of things should I look for to know whethere it will be a good deal? I have known the guy for a while and he builds turbo drag cars for fun so I think he knows his stuff and wouldn't try and screw me.

Depens on how much you are looking to spend.

Why did he remove the engine and not build it if he into turbos. Just puts a flag up to me. I would offer him 5k.

Miles & Condition play a big part. A mint 20k mile Sy would be worth more than that, a 200K mile rusty Sy would be a rip off.

Location? Pics? See if a local can inspect the truck with you. Hell, if you are close, I'll go with ya

Re: buying a syclone...

The car is in Wentzville Missouri which is about 40 miles west of St. Louis so if anyone's close that would be awesome if they could come look at it with me.

If you want to come look at it with me that would be cool but if not I would understand but I will probably go up to his place on saturday in the afternoon sometime, my email is vanillaice782@yahoo.com if you want to set something up.

Is this the same truck that was posted at the Buick board?? Don't listen to those guys, just buy it and fix it...they love rubbing in how hard these trucks are to work on.....sounds like a good deal...syclones are getting rarer by the day and will always be rarer than a turbo buick.....

Re: buying a syclone...

$5K for a Syclone...damn, these things really have depreciated to almost nothing. Gotta wonder if prices will ever start going back up on these trucks? My uncle has a 68 Shelby GT500 Mustang he bought new w/33K original miles. Car is worth over $100K now...I'd like to think I could recoup my investment in this truck someday. Ah well, vehicles are terrible investments in most cases anyway.

Re: buying a syclone...

It is a project and a half though, I talked to him today and he has all the motor components to put it back together but it needs new pistons, rings and would probably need some work done to the block, he didn't get specific on what happened to the pistons but said it needs new ones. I still haven't decided whether I want it or not it has 115,xxx miles, looks almost rust free, has a nice interior but it looks like the bed cover would need to be repainted.

It has a fiberglass bed cover? Cool  . A lot of paint defects can be erased by simply "buffling it out." Sounds like a decent deal, but it's your call.

Re: buying a syclone...

I'm gonna go for it, I am going to see if he will let me pay him half this week to get the motor and half next week to get the truck. I am going to plan on getting the motor today and selling it to save up for a new motor I found. I can't wait to get home and talk to him.
