Re: Bum lifter??

I don't see how you can move on w/o knowing what your pressure is. I had this problem about a month ago and I had a nice decrease in pressure. I put the Lucas in there and it went away but now the lifters are starting to make noise again. I will have call Tj to come down here and work on my truck.

Re: Bum lifter??

the lifter preload changes depending on what brand lifter you have. proper preload is 1/2 the stroke of the plunger in the lifter. this is different for each brand. 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 turn doesnt work for every lifter out there.

too much and your eng will run like poo. too little and it will rattle.
stocker are about 1/2
comp 875's are about 1/4

Re: Bum lifter??

Really appreciate all the comments guys! Time is a bit of an issue so prolly won't actually pull any lifters right away but having all your ideas makes it better. May reset the rockers soon though. Still need to check the other items mentioned.

Re: Bum lifter??

Well whatever it is it just got way worse.

Month ago truck was running funny at the track. Kinda just giving up past, say, 3500. Anyway drove home just fine. Went on vacation bla bla...

Take truck out today to try to find the trouble and on first FT pull it gave up again AND started knocking. Rod bearing I think. Nursed it home (did NOT like doing that). Just cranked it with coil disconnected and all cyls sound the same as the starter pulls them through so I'm guessing something on the bottom end. Oil pressure dancing around a bit which kinda confirms things. Could be a main I suppose but noise is consistent with a rod.

Anyway, not a happy camper right now. Will have to settle down and make some sort of decision later this week.
