I was looking for my the built date on the door jam and I saw 10/31/91 (upper right corner on PAS sticker). Is it considered a 92 because it was so late in 91?

In GM, they typically start making the model year the previous July. So a lot of 92 GM vehicles started production in July 91. I don't know the model start dates of the So GT, Sy or Ty though.

So after searching, etc. I take it the only way to know build date is the little PAS sticker on the door sill? Crap-0-la. The previous owner of my Ty had it repainted, and among the things he didn't put back on, the PAS sticker seems to be one of them.

its not lost, like most syty information, its there, it just needs to be cataloged.

Being that your truck number is pretty damn high, it was probably built within the last week or so PAS production run of Ty's.

I think that goes for pretty much ALL auto manufactures now days. traditionally (for example) 6/91 - 5/92 is a 1992, 6/92 - 5/93 is a 1993, ect ect.

except his truck is a 92, not a 93. Ill take a wild stab and say his truck was made in Sept/(early)Oct of 92.

I guess that would make sense. Would be cool to have the official build date, but hey, I can wait. I remember someone used my Corvette VIN to tell me my old Vette's build date, so I'm assuming when Merk gets through all the info, the same will be possible? or relatively close anyway? To me, it's worth the wait. :) At least now I have a Chilton's with all the wiring/vacuum diagrams the previous owner lost when he replaced the hood.

Ty's don't run in vin order like Sy's do. Correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've read over the past years, it seems Ty's didn't run in any real order at all. PAS musta had all the Vin tags in a hat and just pulled one out when they needed one. Oh well, at least I know my Ty is real by the VIN, even if I am missing most of the other identification features.

You are correct. Thats why my guess was a "wild stab" :)

I believe the theory is, they were not in "order" 1-2-3-4.... due to the fact they were painted different colors, and there possibly painted at different times. I think there was some talk on here once about "colors" being grouped together in VIN sequence.

didn't someone mention "parking by vin" at nats? It would be really interesting to see what sort of order that produced in the Ty's, color wise, etc. It might shed some light on the "vin by color" theory. Would make sense to me, vin'ing by color. It's a lot easier to paint a bunch of trucks all the same color, build em, then vin em, but who knows. I'd be up for parking by Vin, if I were going to Nat's this year. :( Oh well, maybe next year.

My newly purchased Ty had a light dent in its left fender. I took the washer fluid tank out and found a yellow number on the fire wall. Has anyone else found one. Mine was 0194, makes me wonder if that is my "real number". Or what does it mean?

on the subject of build dates my dad's syclone is #0004. It's even got a little label inside the glove box that says GM-004 on it(not sure if that's normal or not). I was just wondering what day it was made on. Obviously it's very very early.

I think that means it was a test vehicle? Prototype? Or am I crazy?

I've often wondered that myself. I figure it had to be a test vehicle or one of the very first ones introduced to the public. Does anybody know?

I highly doubt it, there have been many "random numbers" found on SyTys, under headlighers, under carpets, behind dashes, inside transmission tunnels, none of them have amounted to anything.

I thought Randy Travis owned Sy #4. If so, either your dad is Randy Travis, or one of the Sys is probably a prototype.
