building a mild 4.3 bowtie turbo engine.

Hi
im building my self a 550-600hp dailydriver that will work with modified th700 and stock driveline.

i already have 4.3 aluminum bowtie block 14011069 & 14044883 Heads, scat 6" rods, je-pistons.

few questions:

- have anyone fitted the sy/ty original intake to those heads? if not what intakes have you used? the nascar cross ram does not look like it would be best solution for boosted applications.

- what kind on hyd.roller you guys have been using and it seem that block needs retro fix lifters?

- any prolems using sbc 0 offeset rocker arms on those heads?

- wtf is the balancing shaft ? i saw that on com cams page.

what size turbo would you recommend for wide powerband ?

on that powerlevel will the original turbo headers still be ok?

all the tips on build are well come

For a quick response... I am almost 100% sure that you can't use the stock intake or exhaust manifolds with those heads. You would need a modified carb intake manifold and custom headers for those heads. Is the block a one piece or two piece rear main seal?? That would matter on what crank you would need..

Hope this helps a little..

it is a 2 piece main seal. if needed i can tig weld custom headers my self but as we all know those take time , im gonna first try if the originals fits. i havent seen any other intakes exept those nascar cross rams well hogan makes sheet metals ones but the price tag is quite big..making my own would again mean lot of more used hours.

You can kinda use a modified lower but it would have to be one with a lot of extra material. Best to use a different intake though...

Being a 2 piece rear main you only have a few crank choices, one would be an 1985 only 4.3 crank, a odd fire crank for at least $1000 or a forged/billet evenfire for $3k...

For the exhaust it depends if they are raised runner exhaust to determine if a set of ATR or Kenne Bell headers would work. Look at the exhaust ports are they normal:

or raised?

You dont have a balance shaft block they are a late production block.

Im not sure on the cam, lifters, and rockers. I'm not ready to mock up my block yet...

What are your plans for engine management?

We've got a great plug n play ecu/E85 package coming to market.....along with crank trigger, cam sensor and coil packs.... That would make tuning your "big turbo" setup a snap

i think i stay with motec, i have those in all cars and had good results on it on boosted applications. thanks anyways.

my street driven chevelle made 1480hp/1712nm on dyno.. runs in E85 and has now almost 3000miles on it.

Cool that you made it work with the spacers i can go forward with same idea. im interested on your intake and jesels if you wanna separe your kit. maybe even those turbo headers even those needs for on using factory steering rack.. you have the rack& pinion setup on it? did you made that or find bolt on setup?
Thanks

To run the stock intake with those heads you have to ad spacers to the port flanges. I actually have a manifold like this that I was trying to sell but wanted to sell the whole top end.

I wont separate anything. These set ups to me, need to be sold complete. It takes a LOT of knowledge and resources to put these setups together if you don't have experience with it. Ask me how I know.

It doesn't matter what you build if the transmission blows up when you go WOT.
Work backwards from that.trans is priority #1.

the th-700 tranny is already done, he`s been drving on he`s on 10`s for many years without issues in heavyer car. as it works perfectly i would not want to start the 4l80e before it gives up.

ok, then i will have to pass as i already have the heads. i think i will try to use basic sbc offset roller rockers on it, and use spacers between the intake and heads. the headers is not an issue for me, as i have tig welded the turboheaders to my chevelle and tons of other pieces.

I wasn't really trying to sell it you, more or less just want you to see the complications of making this all work. FWIW, it's not just spacers in between the manifold and heads and block. The guy that did this had to custom make these spacers, they then welded them to the intake inside and out and then scaled them to look like it was a factory piece. I'd bet this cost well over $1000 to have done.

Thanks

I didn't have any of it done, it all came this way when I bought it from a board member.
