Budget Paddle shifter idea

Re: Budget Paddle shifter idea

Btw I know the syty came with the 4L60 and this requires either a 4L60E or 4L80E but I know that quite a few people have swapped over to the newer electronic trans. Plus maybe this would be good for people wanting to swap without having issues controlling the trans.

Re: Budget Paddle shifter idea

People have been doing the switch method on DSM's for YEARS. I did it on my 92 AWD Auto in 1996-7.

I don't remember the logic, but the same off/on pattern looks the same, from what I can recall. I know the DSM transmissions have some sort of input for the line pressure as well, some people were using a rheostat or potentiometer somehow to go full pressure vs whatever they turn the knob to.

If the stock 4L60E works the same, it *should* just be a wire up and go, you may not even need the stock TCU/ECU for it.

Why would you want to do this? It just sounds dumb to me.

Re: Budget Paddle shifter idea

From everything I've found the 4l60e uses the same design for the solenoids so the box will wire right up.

Personally I'm doing it because I have a new transmission I've never used or seen used so it'll help me diagnose any issues it has since I'm swapping from the 4l60 to the 4l60e, I'm also doing it because my shifter has issues going into 1st and rather than keep adjusting the cable and linkage it's easier to just have it on a switch, and my main reason I'm doing it is to prove to some people that it can be done on a cheap budget. The real use of the paddles isn't anything I need so it'll just be a luxury, but I think it will be nice to have just for fun. Paddles when I'm in a good mood and computer controlled when I'm feeling like cruising.

Which box did you end up ordering? You posted links to two of them in your other thread.

Re: Budget Paddle shifter idea

I currently have the forced four because it hard wires the external controls. If this project works good I'm going to get the roadsurge for my 97 jimmy that way I can compare them and see if there's a difference. So far the only difference in them is the way to attach the external outputs, forced four is wired and the roadsurge uses a headphone jack. So this summer I should have a comparison if all goes as planned.
