brown/tan wire

what is the brown wire cut for?
i have tried searching but it is absolutely worthless.
i know it deals with the timing but why exactly must it be cut. thanks.

Don't Cut it!

You disconnect it when setting your timming. It is located under the Passenger side carpet. You might have to take off the plastic kick panel cover then pull back the carpet to find it. It is up close to the firewall.

I don't know all the theory behind it, but I think by disconnecting the wire, it stops the Computer from adjusting the timing. This way, you can set your base timing properly. If you do a search on this site or syty.org list archives, you will probably find out more info.

Chris is right, by disconnecting the brown wire the computer cant alter the timing. That's the only way to make sure that you are set at 0 degrees with a timing light, well to be 100% sure you need to do a TDC check with a piston stop first. Hope this helps.

You start your truck and it is going to set it's own timing. With the tan wire disconnected it keeps the ECM from changing it.

ok can any 1 telll me the exact color of the wire is it jus brwn or does it have a strip on it...and can it be found commin str8 out of the ecu

the wire is tan with a black stripe. open pass door squat down look toward the firewall righ at the edge of the carpet. there will be a run of wires in black tape with the tan wire on the outside. that is the one you want it has a conector in it.
