Re: bowling green KY

I think it would be great but I'll go where ever it is. There is more to it than just saying "lets move it to BG". There are lots of +'s and -'s to moving the Nats. It would be great for attendance to be closer to the FAST, GAST, NASTE, and ChiTown guys and theres an abundance of hotels and theres loads of things to do there (Corvette plant, Corvette museum, Beech Bend park...). It would also be farther from the Colorado, Texas, NM, and SoCal people. There were also issues with getting the track rented when we wanted. It has been discussed before in the past.

...I`m still curious about "how strictly the track rules, and safety equipment specs" are enforced
at wherever the Nationals will be?

For most SyTy`s, and Nationals Classes, guys use common sense (long pants, helment, etc).
But if the Tech Officials, or Track (due to insurance) restricts participants (requiring
coolant tanks, driveshaft loops, no wheel spacers/adapters, fire extinguishers, or more...)
then racing is gonna be a problem.

It seems some places have weak rules (as in wed nite grudge racing where anything goes)
and other places have nazi enforcers. I havent even mentioned differences in AHRA, NHRA,
IHRA, or NOPI tracks; 1/8 mile vs 1/4 mile tracks; or costs.

Lastly, there is the elevation, humidy, temp, rain/heat, issues. Las Vegas in Summer would be a bummer (for example).

Re: bowling green KY

One thing about BeechBend, I don't think they are NHRA track so the tech might be more lenient there.
I don't think there is a track out there who is going to tell you in writing you can run any type of vehicle there with no restrictions.
That decision has to made by track officials at the time they tech the racers in.

Again, it would take the local crew to step up and volunteer their services if they want to show their support.

Doesn't matter to me where it goes anymore, I'll be there.

I am considering going out to BG just for a weekend of fun to tour the 'vette factory and the museum again.
Any JSm events planned for fall>?

I can tell you in about a month Jeremy and myself will be making a trip or two there for racing, or tri-state.

If you just want to come down.

Re: bowling green KY

How much risk is involved with moving the event especially since it will be the 10th Annual?

Re: bowling green KY

im not suggesting we move it permanently, but realistically traveling across the country is a long ways to go. id rather see it somewhat centralized but alternate every year closer to the east coast or the west coast. i think the majority of trucks are on the 2 coasts, and you would see a huge increase in attendance by rotating the event back and forth. because there are LOTS of people that just arnt going because of how far away it is. by rotating it you could still get the midwest guys, and every other event you would get the coastal guys. i hav eno say in the matter, but it seems to make sense to me. i bet florida alone has more syty's than showed up at the nationals event in kansas. not sure what the ideal location for the westcoast event is, but i think bowling green is the place for the east coast.

Re: bowling green KY

...I would hate to be on the planning Nationals committee. Seems you have to cater to the following:
-How to attract participants in general, and consider hotel, parking, security, eating, and show-n-shine
-How to attact racing participants for all classes, and consider track fees, rental fees, and track rules
-How and when to schedule the event, with little or no money
-How to advertise and promote the event (ie posters, email, website, etc) with little or no money
-How to attract Syclones, Typhoons, and SoGTs without offending G/N, Turbo TA, S10 or similar vehicles
-How to attact vendors, part suppliers, donations/giveaways without membership fees or large attendance
-And how to schedule back up activities in case of rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods.

Im not flaming anyone bringing up changing the location of the Nationals, but its seems a bit
more productive if some/most of the above questions were answered in posts when alternate
sites are given. And given that seldom is the definition of a successful Nationals ever defined
(e.g. is it defined by low et`s or records set; the number of racing vehicles; the number of
racing events like dragracing, autocrossing, burnout particpation, or street/grudge matches;
the number of hotel registrants; the number of pre-registered vehicles/owners; or the socializing and
night life).

Lastly, while the moving the Nationals is most often brought it, no one mentions attracting a
large attendance for a Regional Event (which seems like the definition of having either an
East Coast, or West Coast Nationals - as by default only most of that areas owners would participate)

But what do I know...(not much as I still dont have a million in the bank!)

Maybe thats the thing. Maybe the major donators should be the ones calling the shots. The people that front the most money to rent the track or so on so forth, I'm sure every persons registration doesnt pay for everything and other people have to front money somewhere. So let those people that do give a large percentage of the money pick where it's at. :dunno:

Bowling Green sounds good. Their techs are pretty easy going, you can have passengers even. My friend ran with 2 other people in his car. I never even popped the hood on my vette, granted I only ran 12.7. Still they did not check for battery tie downs or anything. No one asked me about a helment either. I have been there for a Vette bash, and a local forum rented the place for the day. Both times were great, and the tech process was basically non existent.
