Re: boost?

several items have to be addressed before going higher then 15 psi . you'll need an chip and 3 bar map sensor . chip calibration for whatever fuel injectors . map sensor to be able to read boost lbs. above 15lbs . added fuel delivery . i.e. adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a h.o. fuel pump . a good aftermarket boost gauge and datamaster / in car monitor with laptop would be very helpfull to keep an eye on the engine so you don't grenade the thing . search this site and you'll find that the vendors and some of the board members have all those items for sale .

Re: boost?

thanks, for the info. just bought the ty last month and found out a few things after reading the forums. i have an msd ignition 6a,walbro fuel pump and adj fuel reg. i have a exhaust temp and boost gauge on the pillar. blocked off egr system. i hear a slight ping @ 15 psi, i was going to back the timing back 1 degree, right now i'm using 94 oct fuel. do you think i can get away with using an oct boost and leave the stock timing. i don't want to detonate the engine like a grenade.

Re: boost?

Dont back the timing off manually. Try a better brand of gas, or search the forum for SeaFoam. You should also check your plugs, to make sure their cold enough. I have NGK UR5's, and thats what most people recommend. Make sure ALL your vacuum lines are in tip-top shape too. Make sure your IC pump is working too.

Basically, dont even think about going over 15psi if you cant safely run 15.

If you can hear it, it's severe detonation.

Validate that it's a stock chip, most of them have had some sort of aftermarket chip installed.

A good ignition tune-up (plugs, cap+rotor, wires) may clear up your problems.
