Boost Issues

All,
I have just finished up the first round of mods to the truck and I am still struggling with some issues. The truck is only making around 5lbs of boost at WOT and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it. I did a full tune-up on the truck from fuel system to plugs and wires. I also installed all new vacuum lines and just about anything else that I thought could cause me problems. I did a quick data log this morning and I noticed that my spark advance is showing about 24.5 off idle and about 35 at part throttle. Everything else looked good, but I'm not sure what the spark advance should be. I'm new at these trucks and I'm starting to get a little frustrated with my issue. Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: Boost Issues

First things that come to mind for me off the top of my head would be to double and tripple check to see if the wastegate actuator is working properly.. Make sure the vacuum lines are routed proper from the boost solenoid and inspect the cat to make sure it's not clogged which is pretty common on these trucks if the tune is out of wack and running very rich.

Re: Boost Issues

I am battling the same issue. Found out my wastegate is not working properly.

Re: Boost Issues

I've checked all vacuum lines to vacuum diagram in the manual about 10 times and I've replaced the cat and the wastegate actuator both in the last week. I set the new wastegate actuator to the starter settings in the manual, but I have the proper tools on order to set it exactly as it should be. I really can't figure out the spark advance though, as I figured it would be higher at lower rpm and then lower at WOT.

Re: Boost Issues

sound like its your boost solenoid. If it dies you will only get 8lbs boost but on the gauge looks like 5.
Worst accuracy of all time.

Re: Boost Issues

That is a possibility, I really didn't even consider the boost controller. Does anybody know if you can ohm the switch out to see if it is good?

Stab it and steer it
Re: Boost Issues

Stock? Or not I guess? There is a pre-load on the WG actuator. Is it set correctly? I forget the exact setting but set the rod so it has to be pulled out about half the diameter of the pin on the WG to get it on will be close. And while it's disconnected check that WG works freely.

Spark advance seems a bit high. Can you post that DM?

Re: Boost Issues

Well, I checked the WG solenoid and it is bad. I ordered a new one, but it won't be here until next week so I guess I'll just have to wait until then to see if it fixes the problem. I'll try to post up the DM later, as I'm having problems getting it loaded. :shoot:

Re: Boost Issues

Well,
I got the new boost control solenoid installed and problem solved. I guess I need to look in the obvious places first next time. Thanks for all the help.
