Body experts, rust problems

Hey all, Im looking at picking up a 94 Bravada with a Sy setup. It used to have a spare tire swinggate attached to back, but it was removed and the hole were never covered and theyve begun to rust out. How hard would it be to fill the holes/get rid of or stop the rust?

The front fenders also have rust above the wheels, how hard would it be find new ones and replace them? Thanks!

I paid $59 each for replacement CAPA certified fenders.. They fit perfectly and the metal is not too thin/flimsy IMO..

As far as the rust at/around the rear tire mount you would most likely need to completely cut that metal out then weld in new.. You will want to work the metal(shaping/welding/grinding) so that it is as close to the original bodys lines as possible so that you can skim it with minimal amounts of filler...

Or you could cheap out... cut out the rust, slap in some long strand body filler, sand it smooth, body work, prime, call it a day..

If you go the metal/welding route make sure that you seal up the back of the new metal where its welded to the old.. Otherwise it will rust again...

Rust is like a iceburg. From what you can see on the outside it's 3 x's worse on the inside. If it's at the bottom of a door or tailgate, that is hard as hell to fix,you have to cut the seam and do up a new one. Sometimes it's cheaper to find a good used door and repaint it.

I agree with Norm...he should know what corrosion can be like since he's Canadian too, lol....the best is to cut, weld, lead over, sand, fill, sand again, lol......and sand some more if it doesn't look right. And if you cut, try to use the piece cut out as a template for the new piece. Simple right ?
