Better Brakes

I have the (im guessing old) Baer front rotor/caliper upgrade (silver calipers with red baer logo) and regular ol' drums in the rear...

I'm eventually looking to get everything to match (and work better, for some reason my father's grand cherokee stops 1,000,000 times better?!? and I have hawk pads and no air in the lines?!?)

I'm looking to get something along the lines of this...LINK

I'd keep the baer setup up front but the rotors are getting old and need to be replaced, and I figure it would look dumb to have different calipers up front than in the rear (unless baer makes a nice set of calipers I can use in the rear of the truck??)

What seems to be the best bang for your buck braking system out there with good drilled/slotted rotors (not those cheapo ebay chinese guaranteed to warp p.o.s. rotors)

since the rear is still drums, is there still a kit out there to use to swap them over to the discs? Might be cheaper if I keep the baer setup up front and get new rotors, then spend the bulk of the money getting the rear to match...

Re: Better Brakes

The biggest improvement to my braking system was getting rid of the vacuum driven brakes and switching to the powersteering assisted one. After that ABS delete. Made the c5 conversion twice as effective. Plus being able to hold 20psi on the line is great as well :)

I asssume you have 12" rotors. What thickness is your rotors, some of the really old ones cam with .81" rotors. I have the 12 x 1.1" front Baers and my brakes work great. If you brakes aren't working all that well I would suspect they aren't operating as they should be.

I gotta look into the braking system...becuase myy old blazeer had all stock brakes and would stop twice as good as the typhoon does...this braking system is honestly a death trap waiting to happen... I've bled these things like a million times though so idk...

If you think stock blazer brakes are better than your front Baer, you definately have something wrong. Do you have the stock ABS? Are the calipers working properly or maybe you have cheap brake pads?

Re: Better Brakes

Baer made a kit for the front and for the rear of our trucks:

BAE-4302016 Rear (Summit Racing price 1125.95)
BAE-4301020 Front (Summit Racing price 995.95)

both are 12" rotors.

Re: Better Brakes

Where do I get just the New front Rotors... drilled slotted, just like those... mine are shot...

Also, the drums have never been done.... I bought the truck like.... 2 years ago... so i gather I have no back brakes... maybe that might be the problem lol ;)

I was using HAWK Pads btw...

If you have a really old set Baers you could have 1 of 2 sizes of rotors. 12 x .81 or 12 x1.1 The 12" x 1.1" I think have to be sourced from Baer. The 12" x 0.81" are 88-95 Corvette Rotors. If you do have the 0.81" rotors, it to me to thinking someone potentially could have tried to use the smaller rotor with the 1.1" calipers (creating your braking problem)

Hawks are good set of pads so that shouldn't be the problem.
