Best Paint To Use On Interior Trim

Don't know if should post this here or under painting. I tried to run a search on it and wasn't really finding what I was asking, so if anyone knows of a previous post, please point me in that direction.

What is the best paint to use, and best way to apply it, to interior plastic products, such as door handle trim, consoles, etc? I was thinking the easy way to do it would just be get some spray paint and put like 5 coats on it, but someone told me they have a really bad "orange peel effect" that could pop up. Would it be better to go with paint from a model store or whatnot? Sandpaper the pieces before you paint? Any ideas, please let me know.

Re: Best Paint To Use On Interior Trim

I've heard krylon fusion was pretty good.

Also, I've looked around http://www.s10forum.com/forum/ in the body/paint section and found some decent tips. Just dont read too much on their or you will want to take out your interior and smooth it, fiberglass it and run a 15inch LCD in your dash. :rotf:

If you want the best paint that won't fade, crack or peel, have a small spray gun and "want to do it right", go down to your DuPont paint jobber and have them pull the interior color code for you, oh what the hell :rotf: ..... I'll give it to you. C8575 = Dark Charcoal, C9111 = Dark Gray, C9110 = Med. Gray and tell them you want the vinyl / interior paint. Depending on which parts you are paint there are the different gray's above and several different "gloss" levels (take on of the parts you will be paninting as a color sample).

Master Tint 304S is low gloss (dash / ins. panel), 305S is Med. gloss (pretty much everything else), 305S is high gloss (vinyl seats and tops). Also have them print the tech sheet for you buts it real simple cuase it's an R.T.S. (ready to spray) product but can be reduced up to 10% with standard laquer thinner. The real trick is clean, clean, clean. Did I mention clean? Seriously though, years of Armour All etc. soaked in will kill the job even if you use a rattle can so first hot soap and water then wax and grease remover. Don't try anything stronger (laquer thinner, acetone, mek) cause it will melt the plastic  ! This stuff properly applied will last 15 years and your supplier should be able to give you all the help you need!
Good luck!
