Belltech springs installed and no drop

I installed my new Belltech rear springs (#5954) and I do not notice any difference. I did not use the stock wedge and the prior owner did install traction bars witch seam to have flattened the stock spring abit. So maybe my Ty was already lowered. I did not have to touch the front, it is level as is.

Also now the rear wheel is not centered, the front gap is 2&1/4” wide the rear gap is 2&3/4” wide.
I would like to make it lower what should I do?

i replaced my stock springs/2" drop blocks with the belltech leafs.
you might have to give it time for the leafs to "work in".
i did use the stock wedge on my belltechs.
but 10 times better than the blocks.

put the stock wedge in and get a fat guy to sit in the back for a bit and let the springs settle.

I had the same thing, but after a week it dropped almost 2 inches.

The drop that Bell Tech claims is from stock Sonoma ride height.
Since SyTys came dropped 1" it is really only a 2" drop and like chad said the springs will need to settle in before you see the actual drop.

I am running the Bell Tech leafs with a 1" pinion correct block.

So should the fat guy stay back there for like a wekk or so.

depends.............what does he charge?

Usually I find if you bounce the truck up and down a bunch, and drive it a bit, that does it.

Also make sure you do not tighten the leaf spring eye bolts until there is weight on the wheels so they are somewhat settled in before pinching the bushings into place.

I love my Bell Techs.
Actually I ditched the flex a form fiberglass springs for them.
The rebound bounce on the flex a forms was a disgrace.
Especially made small bumps when cornering at 50 mph a challenge.

I'd try and run the wedge if you can. Also, if you got stiffer springs as well as lower, the stiffness might counter the drop, and make it not drop as much. I know that's what happened with my fiberglass ones, so I'm still running blocks.

yes loosen the bolts and put the ty on the ground or alignment rack, that way suspension will settle and bushings will be preloaded.

Funny thing is i've probably lowered and lifted a 100 vehicals in the last ten years and have never preloaded anything just tighten them down in the air and let it roll. Just goes to show you that just because you've done something for a long time doesn't mean you did it right. Oh and you can learn something new everyday, and if you don't your not looking hard enough. Ok enough of this BS resume your thread.

Re: Belltech springs installed and no drop

Search for info on the set back plates that will correct the wheel centering problem and it'll drop it a another 1/4 - 3/8". Mine also took a few weeks to settle and drop a little more.

Re: Belltech springs installed and no drop

I just did this on my Ty but I did get an OK drop. A good friend of mine owned it before me and he noticed it right away but I am still thinking of doing a one inch block. I also need to install the stock shim, that should help it a little. I may be stating the obvious, but you can put jackstands under the rear axle to load the suspension.

How good is the set back plate, do lots of people use them?

Re: Belltech springs installed and no drop

I have the solid billet setback plate from JTR, with their 1" blocks it works perfect, guess it would work with the belltech leafs if guys are still using blocks to lower their tys even further. the setback plates are 3/8". My ty is not lowered in my avatar.

Re: Belltech springs installed and no drop

who makes a decent replacement spring for ty's if you dont want to lower it ? i checked with belltech and all they offer is 2-3 inch lowered springs. i want to replace my rear springs but want to keep it at stock height. also looking for stainless u-bolts and cant find them either. my simple ls-1 brake swapped snowballed into pulling the rear end , needing lower spring plates because i broke a shock bolt , and wanting to replace the springs.
