Belltech springs and shocks

I just got a $400 dollar christmas bonus! Wanting to improve the ride of my typhoon with this. I have the bottom out problem as well  I have been reading alot on this concern and thanks everyone for the good info on our forum.
So plan on going with the belltech lowering springs 5954 and maybe some kyb monomax
shocks for the rears #565075. I can get free shipping from Jc whitney for a total of $304.94
That would be a good improvement, I have 2" blocks and stock springs now.
I do not even know what kind of shocks are installed right now, all silver, but they feel like they are not doing their job! Also have belltech rear sway bar. So do they numbers look right to order or anything else i might need to get this done? Thanks for any heads up. :p

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

just did the belltechs with billstein sport shocks. could not be happier with the end result. i also had 2 inch lowering blocks and bottomed out alot, seems much better now. plus the underside of the typhoon looks nicer with new leafs without all the wedges and blocks. my truck has no rust and i put lots of pb blaster on the leaf spring bolts, the bolts are a pain in the butt to get out. I tried heat, dead blow hammer, many curse words, and eventually cut two of the bolts out. end result is well worth it, plus the new leafs springs centered the wheels for me with no pinion wedges.

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

btw, if you need to replace the bolts that hold the leaf springs to the shackles/frame, its a 9/16 x 4 1/2 inch grade 8 bolt. rock auto has them for about $5 a piece

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

Thanks for the heads up on the bolts. I washed the ty today and was looking underneath
at the rearend set up. looks like stock springs, 2" blocks and no shims. I did notice that the rear end is not centered. more to the front then the rear. so springs would fix this and be a bonus to a better ride. My rear shackles are like bottomed out against the back?
does not look right to me anyways. belltech springs help bring the shackle more foward?
thanks

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

my shackles appear to be pushed back, but not all the way against the frame, but there is alot of weight being distributed across them forcing them back. when i had my truck on jack stands that wasnt the case though. when you do install the new leaf springs, dont torque the bolts when its on jack stands. let the suspension down and settle in before going crazy tightening things up. the really difficult thing is the cladding is in the way of really getting a good swing in with a dead blow hammer. if you have to cut the bolts, dont do like i did and go off a little. i ended up going a little into the existing leaf spring and it just ate saw blades. have fun

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

update, I ordered my belltech springs. I also ordered some bilstein sport shocks.
What is the proper u bolt size with no blocks? 3 inch by 8 inch? 1/2 or 9/16 size?
any info would be great so i can replace everything at once when stuff gets here.
Thanks, john

Re: Belltech springs and shocks

Update. I got my belltech springs and bilstein sport shocks installed on the ty.
The crazy thing was that when i was changing my springs, I found my right side spring
broken in half at the pin location. I started to loosen the u-bolts and my spring fell apart before i could even remove the u-bolts. I hade a hard time finding 3x1/2x6 u-bolts since i was not running blocks anymore. Bought 3x1/2x7 then cut them down an inch. I had no hard time removing any bolts on the springs also, did not have to cut anything. I did not like how the bilstein shocks mounted upside down though and seem like they are almost compressed all the way when installed. I believe i have a rear belltech sway bar, its silver color with red poly bushings. I have clearance problems between the bar and spring?
I also had a problem with the driver side e-brake cable routed under the sway bar, so when full weight was on the suspension, pinched the cable tight against the spring.
I had to remove and route it over the swaybar. I took out 1 bushing out of the endlink to get more clearance, but only have like a 1/4 still. Anyone else on here have this problem
and how to get it fixed properly. I will try and get some pics up later. thanks john
note: the springs ride very nice with this set up, but DID not center the axle!
