AutoZone Dual 10 inch fans

There is my new E-fan setup. I got them at AutoZone for around $50 a piece. They work pretty good. I just have them hard wired to a switch in the cab. I want to be able to have them on all the time if I need. Like in the staging lanes. I have them set up as pullers.

i'm not sure if 10" fans are big enough, i got 12" fans and am hoping they are big enough

10's are probably gonna struggle. I'm sure they're a mediocre flow rate, so you may wanna consider 12's (they'll fit perfect).

Yup, I just good a pair of Flex-a-lites a week or so ago from Summit. They are dual 12" with a shroud that PERFECTLY covers the radiator. It's like they were made for our trucks. They are kinda pricey at $250 plus tax but my bud's are close to ten years old with NO issues...

BTW, I would HIGHLY recommend that you control the power to the fans via a relay if you haven't already done so. Fans draw crazy high current at start up and you may end up with a melted switch at best and a possible electrical fire at worst.

Was thinking whether or not one of those big capacitors the stereo guys use would help with the draw when fans kick on. My lights dim a little when my volvo fan decides to kick on.

i don't think the capaciters have a long enough discharge period for that andthey are a little big

I think a better alternator would help.

Got an upgrade CS140 alternator, it didnt cure the dimming. My fan pulls 32 amps when it kicks on.

A bigger battery will help solve the issue, the alternator cannot react quick enough, but a capacitior wired in line with the lights will help, stock headlamps?

Did you wire in a relay or is it just hard wired to the battery?

I have a 40 amp relay setup triggered by the ecm. Wiring and grounds are top notch. I have the feed coming off the alternator. I am considering moving that to the battery.

My vote is, to inefficient to work properly.

Re: AutoZone Dual 10 inch fans

I just installed two 12 inch fans. It looks a lot better. I dont really notice any more air flow than I had before. The fans are only rated for like 600 cfm per fan. So close to 1200 cfm with both together. The only time I should need the fans is when Im stopped at a light or something. I will see how this works out.

That's how I had my volvo fan setup before... would spike to like 40 amps during startup and either melt the 35 or 40 amp fuse or dim everything to almost a stall if I was at idle or a stop.

I went with the spal progressive controller and well it cure most of that.. it basically ramps the fan up when needed so the way I have it set it never really puts the fan on high so I don't get that massive spike or draw like before but some days it does

I was considering a progressive controller. I'd like something simple that ramps the fans up slowly, wouldnt have to be a fancy deal at all.
