i just bought a autometer electrical oil pressure gauge and i tapped the sending unit into the remote filter plug. when i turn the key to ON the gauge pegs all the way to the right past 100 PSI and then i start it it still pegs right. does anyone have any ideas on this

sounds either like a crossed wire or a defective gauge.

start with the obvious, remove the wire from the sender and see if it still does it.

If so, pull the gauge back out and make sure the +POS wire is on the correct terminal and the SENDER wire is on the correct terminal. Also make sure the ground wire is good.

If they are not on the correct terminals or they are touching, odds are the gauges is trashed by now.

If they are in the correct position, then it sound like a possible defective guage.

there was an oil restrictor that was supposed to be installed before the oil gets to the gauge ! it's a fitting with a very small hole in it . DID YOU INSTALL THIS ? if not the gauge maybe shot !

 he said he has an electronic gauge, not a mechanical guage, what the hell would the oil need to go to the gauge for.

did you get the wrong sending units? an idiot light sending unit will peg out a guage

i thought of removing the wire from the sending unit and when i did it the gauge didn't work. i haven't had time to check connections on the back of the gauge yet hopefully that's the problem.

i hope it's the right sending unit because it came in the box with it (autometer).

Also, not only is a mechanical oil gauge not NHRA legal, its not safe either. If it broke under the dash all the hot oil from the motor could burn you very badly. Thats why NHRA banned these for inside the cab use. ;)
