So im in my on going fix the knock endevour and i need some info.
What are your normal operating temps (stock radiator stock upper and lower chiller)?

Im getting some audible knock in the truck under boost and boost only. Went for a short, spirited DM run this afternoon and returned home. Checked my DM runs and my engine temp was sitting at 207*.

My intercooler issue i took care of this morning and it is now running like a champ. Highest IAT i recorded was 147*. The thermostat in my garage currently reads 118* so as you can imagine the engine was a little warm.

Now, the audible knock im hearing is comming from the passenger side. I hear the pinging at/around 0 to 4 pounds of boost and it seems to die off soon there after.
The thing bugging me here is the fact that it is audible. Not good. I can standing rev it to the limiter in the garage and get NO knock at all, so i took the intake tube off the turbo and checked the impeller. I noticed a little verticle play in the impeller but through the eyes of my cracked mechanics mirror it doesnt seem to be contacting the housing. The blades are straight as an arrow with no chips or mars to the blades or the housing itself.

Another issue is my AFR and TPS. TPS hasent shown 100% WOT in any of my latest DM runs. At WOT (or 100% throttle 85% plate open heh) under boost im hanging around 10.2 on my new WB AFR. Idle and cruise its bouncing between 14.5 and 15.5 with an occasional split second dip into the lean side of things.

Kinda lost at the moment heh. I know the heat mixed with the richness is definatly causing knock issues.

My knock sensor seems to be a little screwy so im going to replace that as soon as i recoup some of the funds ive spent on upgrades for the truck lately. I did the tap test near the knock sensor and each tap with a 3/8ths inch tube registered hundreds of knock counts.

Im not really frustrated with the truck in any way. Im damned content tracking down and troubleshooting all the issues as im learning a TON from the forum members and literature ive been reading.

I was considering getting some VP Streetblaze 100 from a local shop and seeing if that takes care of some of the kock since the best i can do around goodyear is 91 octane.

If any of you would like to take a crack at my DM files just PM me or leme know and ill post up all of my recent runs.
At the end of todays run my KC's were hovering around the 18,000 mark heh.

Re: ATTN Phx area members.

That may be what im going to have to do. Leme check my DM file and see what the timing is set for at low boost. Its wierd. I've seen as much as 32*'s just at cruising speed with my foot out of the throttle but that doesnt seem to be a constant. Its normally around 25*ish.

It's just a six

Re: ATTN Phx area members.

On your throttle not getting 100%,all the Syclones I have seen, they do not get full throttle.
You can bend your gas peddle a bit, make sure the carpet/mat is not in the way.
Have someone depress your gas pedal in the Sy & someone outside to move your throttle body to the full open position,to see if it is getting full throttle.

147 degrees is a bit warm ,if they are going to be in that range & your are running pump gas,get some type of methanol/water injection system.

Re: ATTN Phx area members.

Well i went down to get my coolent flushed at jiffy lube and they wouldnt touch it because some of the coolent had gelled up. They sent me down to Aamco to have another guy take a look at it. They in turn sent me to a radiator shop next door who pointed out the fact that my radiator had a nice split in the drivers side plastic. Coolent was slowly leaking down the radiator and evaporating.

SO 250 bucks later i find myself in the garage (where its 117 mind you) with a new radiator, 3/4 inch heater hose so i can re-route my IC lines, and a nice fun project ahead of me. This should bring temps down a little bit. As far as i can tell the coolent in the truck has been in there since the first Bush was in office heh.

Soon as the radiator is in and the IC lines are re-routed im going to go get my cooling system high-pressure flushed and see what happens.
And yea, methanol/water injection is my next mod in conjunction with a 3 bar and chip.

No idea actually, the radiator guy is gona do the flush for 20 bucks and told me to do it this way haha.

I might just go to autozone and get some of that self flush and do that before i yank the cracked radiator. That just makes more sence to me then doin it his way haha.

Thats why when I lived there I did most of my work on my truck at night or just waited until winter.

Re: ATTN Phx area members.

Im gona drag my portable 20000 BTU AC into the garage and do it in some comfort. The heat doesnt bother me that much anymore, hell being born and raised in phx gives ya a little tough skin lol.

I drank 2 gallons of water in 7 hours today. BOOOOOO Arizona heat.

HOORAY BEER!

Im just glad the radiator didnt go out on me within the last few weeks. God what a mess that would have been.

I do miss the dry heat but here you don't even have to raise a finger and your sweating your butt off. I also miss my house in BFE. Atleast I was just down the road from Speedworld.

Whitman haha. Speedworld kinda sucks now, they have been really slacking on track prep.

Re: ATTN Phx area members.

Well dispite the heat being enough to kill the elderly in phx today i got quite a bit done. After 3 trips to autozone/checker for different things im now on the back 9.

Flushed the upper intercooler and lower heat exchanger, removed cracked radiator, installed new 3/4 inch rubber IC lines routed through the fender, installed a new 180* thermostat as reccomended by a few on here, installed new engine coolent temp sensor (oops, snapped it off while removing stock metal ic lines :D ) and last by not least i re-routed some of my vac lines to clean up the engine bay a bit. The coolent in the radiator/block was aweful. Nice dark dark green/brown with chuncks of gelled coolent. No doubt its been in the truck since 92. Had a little rust in the lower heat exchanger but other then that everything is goin smoothly.

The upper IC coolent looked brand new. At least new the IC pump is working and doesnt have to fight the engine heat.
