ATF thermostat?

I know that heat kills trannys and cold doesn't. But is there any "too low" point for ATF temperature?
My Ty has aftermarket ATF cooler under front bumper, I'm going to move it upstairs, right behind the grille (in front of radiator). Should I install oil thermostat in there, just in case? Otherwise ATF temp would sure drop down on a winter freeway. I'm kinda worried... Same question for engine oil.

Re: ATF thermostat?

Some coolers, like the B&Ms, have an automatic bypass built in so that the tranny can still get up to temp quickly..

Do you have a link, or p/n? I've searched through B&M site, there are some radiators with thermal sensors, but those are only to activate the fan on temp rise. It looks to me that there are no low temp bypass lines...

Tru cool LPD4739-1 is an example...

A quick search supports your theory that below 32F is too cold and can harm the trans.

Re: ATF thermostat?

That unit doesn't have thermostate inside, just special design of channels that allows cold atf to flow the shortest way.
Thanks anyway. I'll dig through some oil thermostates...
