Are wheel spacers safe?

Re: Are wheel spacers safe?

My Skulte adapters are "supposed" to be hub centric. However the hole in the center is significantly larger than my hub, SO that makes them lug centric. Speed tested to 90+mph with no problems, as well as plenty of autocrossing, drag racing, and general beating without a problem. Ever. They've not come loose, they haven't wobbled, or not seated. None of that. Just takes twice as long to torque them on since there are 10 nuts on each wheel instead of 5! And be sure to torque them like Loeryder said!

Re: Are wheel spacers safe?

It was one of the adapter studs that hold the wheel to the adapter that broke and the wheel just about came off. I was on the highway doing like 110 about 20 minutes prior so this could have been way worse.

To explain a bit I had the ty at pepboys with a heater problem and had a different (same height) wheel on that soon to be problem spot since I had one tire replaced (sidewall tore all the way around on the old tire) and the new tire/wheel was in the truck. So since pepboys said the problem with the heat was controls in the dashboard and they don't do that kind of work I told them to swap the one wheel for me since the truck was there. I do not know if they over tightened it or did not tighten it enough or what but leaving from Don's house and going around the corner at the end of his road the wheel just about came off. I think now that I am kinda remembering a few of the studs broke and the truck just kinda sat half ass on the wheel with maybe one loose stud left.

My 69 Vette had similar wheel adapters when I bought it. The first time I pulled the wheels off, I saw lots of cracks around the studs. I'm sure it would have been an accident waiting to happen if I didn't remove them.

Yeah no cracks on mine. The wheel flopped around a bit and banged the adapters face up a bit but not tobad. I assume the idiots at the pepboys just didn't tighten them enough or overtightened them and thats why they broke off?

Why doesn't SyTy allow pictures?

I have a picture that I want to upload, but there's no option...

I would show a picture of my Ty with 1998 Camaro Wheels with 1.25" spacers in the back.

Why SyTy? How come everyone has the ability?

You'll have to upload it to photobucket or somewhere, then post the link.
