So the east coast has the there own syty extravaganza, why the hell can't we. I remember once seeing that the GN guys were having a meet at the same time as supras invade Las Vegas, and that sy/ty's were invited. We should shoot for something like this in 06. I know vegas is about as far as I would want to drive the Ty, and Vegas makes a nice mid point so that everyone on the west coast gets to drive about the same amount. Anyone have thoughts on this?

The idea of having a west coast event has been tossed around many times over around here with with very little success. Not to piss on your parade or anything because I will always be down for a nice big SyTy extravaganza within reasonable driving distance. And hell yeah, I'm always down for Vegas as well!!
It seems as though all the hardcore guys are all back east for some reason. We just don't get the hype over here... ionno.
But it wouldn't hurt to try again. Otherwise it'll never happen.
Tell ya what, put something together... starting with posting a link to an event ad or something. Perhaps make some friends on the GN forum. Get us something to grasp onto to generate some interest. I'll consider being an advocate.

I'd be down for helping organize something in Vegas for damn sure. I make that trip religiously every year for the Turbo Buick meet. It'd be really REALLY nifty if we could get in touch with the people organizing that event and just include SyTys, since they're a very similar animal (they double-booked both the Buick and Supra West coast Nats there last year as it is)... It's probably too late to do something this year (it's the weekend of October 14th I believe), but next year would be a great idea if someone stayed on the ball about it. I'm afraid I might have just volunteered myself...

I'm all for the idea of nats, but thats just too far for me to go. I know with the Typhoon I would be scared every minute of driving that somthing was going to break and we'ed be standed.
I'm down for organizing something for 06, anything in October is way to close for me to even think about going. I, like everyone need time to plan for such an event.
Here are my ideas-
Drag race event, would be nice to see some 1000 hp supras get taken down by some 400 hp sy/ty's beacuse the supras are running 12.9's but traping 135's with 2.7 sec 60' times.
Dining event, It would be great to get all the faces I know on the west coast together for a nice meal. I'm sure vegas has enough banquet halls to pull this off even if there are a bunch of people attending.
Auto X event, I know not everyone here is into also tunring the steering wheel but It would be fun to see a bunch of fat suv's body rolling around an auto x course. I know that Ivanko Barbell would love such an event, as he has an awsome handling setup.
Car cruise even, why not have a cruise up around hoover dam one night. I love the twists and turns you take going through it. No need to show off if you don't want to though.
Hotel parkinglot show N shine: just like it says, have a mini show in the hotell parking lot.
We could even set it up so that it was somthing like auto x friday night, drag race on sat morning, cruise on sat night and show on sunday morning. that way the people who don't like killing cones can just show up on saturday. No big prizes, but definatly give out some good awards/titles/trophys. I would be more than willing to be on such a committie.

we should really do this, it would be sweet to get all the left coast guys together, at the vegas raceway. i definately think we should tag along with the GNs. that way we can get a feel for who would show up. right now i believe we would be to small to organize an event ourselves.

I think we're on to something here.

It would also be a cool opportunity to expose our presence among the entities. If anything, the difficult part IMO would be getting enough of us to show up; you know, to really make a statement.

Hey I would definately be open for a SyTy meet in Vegas anytime. Personally as one of the organizers for San Francisco bay area SyTy get-togethers. Myself and Tom Dowd (V8Eater) have seen a steady decrease in the last couple years for doing his annual event in the Summer months. I have tried bringing the Bay Area SyTy community together with the Bay Area Grand National gang. I attended a couple of their meetings and they are a great bunch of people. But they like us can't seem to pull things together. There's always allot of talk but when it comes right down to it. Nothing really happens. Commitment and follow through seems to be a hard thing to achieve at least for the SyTy gang?
But given enough notice I stand ready to try and make it happen from my geographical location in the south bay area. Plus I'm fairly certain that if an event were to happen and enough prior notice was given, Tom Dowd would be there in his "Bad Arshe" Mike Lee prepared White '93 Ty.

Yahoo maps says 9hrs 29min Santa Rosa to Lost Wages. I figure I can do it in close to 8 if my tailbone can hold out. Uh, I guess that means I’ll prolly be there.
