anyone install subs in the back?

wondering if anyone has done any kind of custom install with subs in the rear... im not wanting just a huge box sitting back there, was wondering if anyone has made something to the sides to kinda look like they were built into the panels or something.... id like to keep the storage space and look as 'factory' as possible....

I have a fake spare tire that is my sub.

Gives the stealth look.

and... your best bet IMO would be to make a box that covers over the pass. side wheel well and goes from the back of the seat to the tailgate. you could do an inset sub with a mesh cover for the stealth. i think you'd be able to get away with either a 10" or 12" sub.


Edit: had to look it up in the archive, but i knew i'd seen something along these lines

Since the truck hasn't ventured 2 ft from garage in the past 3 years it hasn't been a big issue. :)

Who needs a spare with cell phones, etc. How often do people get flats anymore? Chance I take, just like any other part in truck that could leave me stuck on side of road.

In fact the tires are probably the most reliable thing on a syty.

i had 3 10's in my blazer years ago....faced them toward the floor...my room moved up and down.

my shop designed me a system that encompassed the back seat.

The amps were to be counter sunk into the top portion of the seat and covered with grill cloth.
The subs were enclosed in a box which fit under the lower portion of the rear seat.

What we got was a total stealth system while achieving the acoustic goals.

I acquired all the components for the install, but chickened out.

Besides, I'd rather hear a turbo making the music.

turbodog: That installation looks good, is that a free air sub or is there a box constructed in to the tailgate somehow?

i havent really used it yet i have a 35 shot in it and could not even feel it . so i didnt get a chance to tune with it .

Yeah, its old skool, but it hits hard and sounds great. Chris Pearson did this install when he had the truck, and he kindly left it for me when I picked up the truck. Im not a very big fan of sound systems, but since ChromeBoy is made to bling, it can stay. Ive never had the need of a nice radio or system anyhow (sound systems dont make you go fast), so its kinda cool to crank up the CD player and have good sound for once. :cool:


If you ask me though, my syclone with the PTE52 on an open DP sounds better than any stereo system out there :tup:

I'll be doing a better job at hiding the wiring on the speakers when I get a chance, and I need to add a cap as well.

sometime in the future i'm going to have a MMATS juggernaut 12" running 2x1200 Jbl power amps. already have one amp and the 4 channel to match :ebay: , just need one more and the sub...

then comes the fun part... dishing out money to have a fiberglass box made :lol:

should be rather loud... :eh:
i have 2 kicker comps running with one 1200 right now.. and it's kinda loud, not as loud as the audiobahn 15's i had before but much better quality.
pioneer indash and pstwo are already in it...
so next comes the system build and the sega genisis. (no i'm not kidding)

nice jl setup i bet it's got some good sq with the acoustics in our trucks.
and yeah...i know it's kinda a anti-go fast mod... but when i play tekken 5 i like to feel it when i get hit :slap:

I an installer at car toys and have done lots in blazers and two TYs and 1 SY
TY a single JL 12 w0 fiberglassed in to sidewall where spare used to be they guy did not care about folding his seats down so i stuffed a 4 chan. and a mono block under the back seat and did a cover that mached the lether over them so not to be seen took out the 4x6 in the dash and built painted fiberglass kicks for 61\2 and your standered 6x9 sounded good..
SY single hart onyx 12 behind driver seat box went all the way over to pass for air space and to hide amps 61\2 subs in the doors 61\2 seperats in kicks I put the tweeters and x-overs in the dash where the 4x6 used to be...

kicks are sweet you get more sound up front but it is hard to use your e brake..
I have a pair that I made in mine if I hade any clue how to post pics I would..
