BOOOST is on the way for us now.

Some guy up here s/ced his TBSS and ran NOS with a ton of other things. I guess he got it to run in the mid 11's. Though it wasnt his truck to mod he got dumped by the rightful owner:lol: Or so I heard.

FWIW, my 2007 2wd TBSS runs12.8's @ 105 with very light bolt-ons. I cuts dead-nuts consistent 1.80's at the track on Nittos, and also dead hooks just the same on unprepared asphalt streets with no burnout.

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

I have an 07 also but it is awd and it runs high 13's on 2.1 60's I couldnt get this thing to spin a tire if I wanted it to.

Never raced one,but I did do a 0-60 in the 3's launch for a guy in one, beside me at a stoploght. that asked me how fast the Ty was.

Never saw him again.

Pretty damm fast!
Your not saying it's stock are you? 4.10 gears?
List of mods please.including tuning, & dont leave anything out.
Thank you.

Full weight + (truck has some aftermarket accessories)
Stock 4.10 gears
275/40-20 Nitto 555 dr's on stock 20" wheels
Original LS2 long block untouched from intake to exhaust manifolds
Original 4L70e transmission with Circle-D 258mm 3000 stall converter & B&M trans cooler
RacePartSolutions "Heavy Breather" air filter
SLP 160* thermostat
SLP underdrive pulley
Stock cat back exhaust
Factory y-pipe with Magnaflow resonators in place of oem cats
MSD ignition wires & NGK spark plugs
Ported stock throttle body
Ford Motorsports 47# injectors
Tuned by me on E-85 with HP tuners

I've got some Spal electric fans and a new LS7 throttle body at the shop; It ought to go a few tenths quicker with those, especially once the weather cools off a bit.

Truck is a lot of fun; a lot of sporty cars have been very surprised by my "soccer mom" SUV.

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

Seems like quit a few mods,,wouldn't call a few items
light mods.

When I think of light mods I think of ,headers, exhaust, cold air intake, pulleys, larger mass airflow sensor,,,along those lines, etc, that's maybe just my thoughts.

HP tunner is not inexpensive is it?
Converter pricey?

What did it run best when it was mostly stock?

When I think of light mods I think of ,headers

it does not have headers...STOCK exhaust manifolds

exhaust

Also has STOCK cat back, and STOCK y-pipe with cat! replaced by Magnaflow resonators

cold air intake

No aftermarket cold air intake...just a RacePartSolutions air filter in the STOCK airbox

pulleys

Yup...its got a SLP underdrive pulley. However, they're only good for a few horsepower on a chassis dyno.
(I've got some aftermarket electric fans I'll be installing shortly...they'll give me an additional 10 - 15 rwhp!)

larger mass airflow sensor

Nope...just a STOCK MAF; not even ported or de-screened

,,,along those lines, etc, that's maybe just my thoughts.
HP tunner is not inexpensive is it?

I burned $100 worth of HP Tuners credits on this truck

Converter pricey?

Moderately priced. Its the 258mm single disk billet, which is a little more expensive than the low budget re-stalled 6 cylinder converters, but still way cheaper than the multi-disk billets like I have in my Syclone.

What did it run best when it was mostly stock?

I'd say it is mostly stock right now. No headers, no cat-back, internally stock engine, internally stock tranny, stock gears, not lightened, stock wheels, stock suspension, stock intake and exhaust manifolds. no cold air kit, stock MAF (including screen).

Bone stock, my TBSS ran very close to what my Syclone ran bone stock (nearly 20 years ago).

FWIW, my Sy ran 13.8 the night I picked it up from the dealership

Stock manifolds are good to begin with, they look like headers,no?.[/B]

Have not seen the stock sytem ,but is it all factory mandrel bent pipes?[/B]

cold air intake

No aftermarket cold air intake...just a RacePartSolutions air filter in the STOCK airbox

The SS is a performance SUV,so stock box is probably not too restrictive?[/B]

I think on those SS SUV's,the fan is controlled by the ecu? Could tweak that on off parameter?[/B] Not a big fan of electric fans.

larger mass airflow sensor

Nope...just a STOCK MAF; not even ported or de-screened
Stock I am sure is plenty big enough stock?[/B]

How much did the HP tuner cost initially, not $100

Tunning alone is what helped it a lot & for most people, this is not a bolt on & go afair.Bone stock, my TBSS ran very close to what my Syclone ran bone stock (nearly 20 years ago).

The newer LS engines are awesome & w/all the tunning & aftermarket product support, they will be here a long time ,Like the old SBC's have been & still are.

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

Stock manifolds are good to begin with, they look like headers,no?.

TBSS's use log style cast iron truck exhaust manifolds; same as on 4.8L & 5.3L trucks. (You may be thinking about the LS7 Corvette manifolds; they have individual primary tubes that merge into a single "collector".) These trucks pick up a lot of power by changing over to full length tubular headers and a better y-pipe.

Have not seen the stock sytem ,but is it all factory mandrel bent pipes?

Factory y-pipe is terrible where the 2 pipes pinch together at the merge. From there, its a fairly straight 3" section up to the main muffler, then it reduces down to a single 2.75" tailpipe over the axle into the resonator. One side of the 2.75" is crushed completely flat for suspension clearance! Despite those shortcomings, a bone stock TBSS doesn't pick up much power with a cat-back. However, once you do some mods, a full mandrel bent 3" system is helpful.

The SS is a performance SUV,so stock box is probably not too restrictive?

Stock airbox is a big problem on TBSS's due to poor flow and heat soak. The aftermarket 4" fenderwell CAI systems are proven to help to both improve flow and reduce IATs.

I think on those SS SUV's,the fan is controlled by the ecu? Could tweak that on off parameter? Not a big fan of electric fans.

You could delay the clutch fan to avoid the drag, but that would just make the truck run hotter. (Much like the SyTy's, TBSS's perform best when they're cool.) The e-fans let you enable them earlier, for enhanced low speed cooling and lower parasitic drag.

Stock I am sure is plenty big enough stock?

Bone stock, a bigger MAF isn't necessary. However, once you do some mods (such as the 4" fenderwell CAI kit), it is advisable to upgrade to a matching 4" aftermarket MAF.

How much did the HP tuner cost initially, not $100

HP Tuners is sold as a bundle of hardware, software and tuning credits. They also sell additional tuning credits. The basic retail systems are $7XX and include the hardware, software, and enough tuning credits for 4 vehicles. (Additional tuning credits are $50 each; it takes 2 credits to tune a TBSS.) The systems for professional tuners are available with different tuning credit packages, so the cost per vehicle gets much lower as you spread it out over more vehicles.

Tunning alone is what helped it a lot & for most people, this is not a bolt on & go afair.

Agreed; tuning is probably the best mod. Options run from purchasing your own tuning system (like HP tuners), using a handheld tuner/scanner (less expensive than HP Tuners initially, but not as flexible), professional dyno tuning (usually $300 - $500), or "mail order" tunes (more generic than the custom dyno tunes, but fine for mildly modded trucks and usually less than half the price of a custom dyno tune).

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

My syclone was bone stock when I raced my wife from a stoplight in her trailblazer ss with a CAI and custom tune by me.

I yanked her hard from the launch, but as soon as my Sy hit 3rd gear, she started to reel me in pretty quick. By 100mph, we were side by side as she was passing me.

Sounds about right. Bone stock Sy vs bone stock TBSS in the 1/4 mile, the Sy might have a tenth or two et advantage, but the TBSS will probably trap a mph or 2 faster. It would be a real close race at the stripe!

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

The biggest gain I got was installing a Walbro 255HP pump, thats when my Sy started to MPH better.
Factory pump cannot keep up w/the fuel demand.
IIRC,I used to run 99 MPH in the 1/4,,,install the fuel pump,,,went to 103 MPH 3000ft + altitude track

Open up the exhaust,more MPH,& so-on.

Not too nit pick but your Sy is down a few HP, your trap speed is down 3-4mph from what it should be.

Re: Anybody raced a trablazer SS?

Yea, my truck was hitting the rev limiter going into 4th gear at the track. My TV cable was the issue. I havent taken it back to the track though. But when I raced my wife, the sy was shifting fine

What degree thermostat are you running? When my Sy was bone stock, it ran 13.5's at around 98 mph with a 195 degree thermostat. I changed to a 160 in summer and ran 13.3's at 100 mph. This was at the track in Gulfport, Ms. in Dec 91.
