Any radio gurus out there???

My original factory radio/tape player has never worked right since I've owned it (2007). I get nothing out of the front dash speaker on either AM, FM, or Tape. Right rear works OK. Took it out, checked connections but still nothing. Replaced front dash speaker, still nothing. To my ignorant electrical mind, I'm thinking it is one channel in the amp. My old radio guru died last year, so now I'm up the creek to find someone to repair it in central NH (boondocks). Anyone got a reference or idea??? I'm trying to keep it as original as possible if that is not obvious with the overall quality of the unit being what is is.... THANKS in advance...Brian

Re: Any radio gurus out there???

Plenty of shops that before the web, worked for dealer needs, but now have their own e-tail stores. Can either have yours sent for repairs to one of them/or core for one they have done already, or get the CD version if you want to update, have to talk to them about such details. You have options.

As for diy repair options, Delco electronics have only a fair reputation, often the formacoat that was used to seal circuit boards, shrinks over time (great testing there Delco), and pulls the traces up, detaching the connection. If you know where it is common on a device, you can re-solder the joints, but unless someone knows our stock radios, be a guess where to look. Could also be another cause, but that one was pretty common.

Good luck!

Re: Any radio gurus out there???

Thanks for the quick reply. I've located a fully functioning (tested) one out of a 93 S10 for a reasonable swap price - you were very helpful thanks again....Brian

United Radio in Syracuse, NY is a GM certified repair facility. I've sent several radios there to get fixed, they also made several custom drac modules for me over the years as well. If you send it there they will fix it and send it back looking brand new. They replace anything it needs to make it "new" again. My brother sent his factory cd player from his Sy there last year. Looked and worked perfect when he got it back. Their turnaround time is about a week too.

Good lead, thanks man! Never know when you might be in need, or to save a friend who keeps playing music out of his smartphone instead :rotf:

You can check the factory speakers with an AA battery to see if they are blown or not, at the radio harness & back of the speaker.
