They do make kits, but dont waste your money, its just two cables and a battery box, just make it yourself its not too hard.

Will an optima fit in the stock location? It was a pain to get my battery out this past weekend, I had to twist and turn to get it around the stiff coolant line that goes from the a/c (i think?) I dunno if I can squeeze a different battery in there. Anybody know?

Mine fit just fine in the stock location but my engine bay is far from stock so I'm not sure where the coolant line you speak of runs and how it would affect it.

FWIW, I have the KB kit with an optima. It fits. It is a pain to get to, but I don't have to get to it often. I have a moroso quick disconnect switch hidden inside the firewall which I flip when I want it disconnected and the one time I had to charge it I did it through a set of positive/negative terminals I have mounted to the firewall going back to the battery.

Can you post up a picture of how you did the terminals on the firewall?

I can't speak for the 'kit' itself but if I relocate my battery to the back (which I plan to do) I'll probably use my own parts and will probably put it inside the rear cargo area since I have an Optima.

If you did it UNDER the truck, id be more impressed. Wanna buy a KB kit to get started? :squint:

The engine bay is a mess of wires right now as I have the engine out and the suspension removed (getting ready to throw the RPM kit in) but this should give you the idea.

Err... sort of. Where is that located? Do you have a closer shot so I can see how you mounted the terminals?

This is the best I can do, I'm not near my truck to take any other pictures and won't be for a couple of weeks.

The uploader limits me to 39k so I can't post the pics with much more detail.

Oh yeah, it's located on the passengers side of the engine bay. The aluminum plate it's on is the KB cold air intake plate, I don't use the rest of the cold air intake though.

ok, for locating the battery in the box, which type of battery box do you recommend? Sealed or not sealed? I see kits on summit that have both. What gauge battery wire do you recommend? 1 gauge?

i used 1/0 and it works fine. I think my dad got a summit kit using 2 gauge and it is working flawlessly as well. Do whatever you want for a box, its in the bed, so you dont need to worry if it is vented or not. I'd say once you know what you want, give Hood a call but I'm sure hes busy dealing with a smoldering building.

Well, its funny this topic comes up...

I just got done installing a kill switch to turn my battery off. I have an ATR kit, and became sick of disconnecting it ALL the time and pulling off the wheel ALL the time.

ATR kit has a couple flaws, 1.) the battery can short out easily because the terminals are ungodly close to the front frame and bumper. I tried reversing the batter so I didn't have to worry about this, but then the tire rubs, so it has to go back around and I have to put rubber on the end of the terminals to be sure they don't short out.

2.) Unless you wire an easy access battery shut off, you will have to pull the wheel off all the time, which is no fun when you back the truck into the garage for winter storage, forgetting the wheel is 2 ft. from the wall

I used 2 gauge wiring for mine and crimped the ends with a bolt in the vice and used some good black tape to make them look pretty. Worked out nicely, and is a good theft prevention device.

BTW, I would never jump my truck through the altenator, cause that is the easiest way to fry the altenator and other electric accessories. ;)

Here is the pic. The hose is on the left side of the picture. It's firm and hard to bend and in the way of the battery. Makes for a pain to move the battery in and out.

I was talking about charging... not jumping.

Agreed that jumping using the alternator could possibly cause damage but I think the likelihood of this is much lower using the 1/0 wire versus the puny OEM leads.

Funny you mention the ATR kit.... lets switch trucks now and talk about ChromeBoy.

ChromeBoy has the ATR kit in it... and had a charging issue I had to deal with when I picked the truck up. Again, another kit that is a full on PITA to deal with on getting to the battery. And low and behold, as I was sliding it back in, I noticed the same thing on how the terminal likes to not only touch, but have a tendancy to REST on the frame horn for the rubber donut mount.

Go figure that I would have the 2 most bullshit relocate kits on both trucks. I'll take credit only for the Sy, seeing how I didnt do the ATR on ChromeBoy.

Both have battery relocate modification part 2 on list need to do list.

Where did you get the plates you used to mount the terminals?
