Any of you Ty owners that have had your fuel tank out, is this common?

We changed the fuel pump in Dustin's Ty a couple weekends ago and I was pretty surpised when we opened up the tank to this.

It is a plastic tray that's in the center of the tank to appearently keep the fuel from going away from the pump under acceleration.

I've had a couple Sy tanks apart and have never seen this. Is this a Ty thing or something someone had done?

That is correct, both of my tanks had that in there! Get below 1/2 tank and it will be possible for the gas to miss the pump and go lean. I never race @ 1/2 tank or lower.

yes, thats very common in tanks. My uncle owns a rad shop and see that in most of them.

My tank looked just like that too. My buddy and I were commenting about it when we did my fuel pump.

Hunh, well good to know. Wish they had done something like this in the Sy's, well I guess if it actually worked it would be cool.

my ty had this plastic baffle. I believe most all the blazers I've seen also have this as well.

My truck has one as have all the s-series trucks that I have ever owned. Perhaps you have a replacement tank? I don't think they have the baffles in them.

This isn't the only tank I've ever had out, I've probably had 4-5 of them out before and have never seen it before. Another hit and miss thing by GM

My SGT stock tank didnt have one, and i just put a 2dr tank from a 2002 2dr blazer and it was a factory tank and didnt have it, and im not sure about the tank in my Ty, i know its an aftermarket replacement so it probably doesnt have it, but it has a comp engineering sump welded on, so it doesnt matter anyhow.

Mmmm...... correct me if I'm wrong but even the tanks that do have them don't seem to be all that much better (if any) as far as fuel starvation at low fuel levels on acceleration?

My Ty has it in there as well and its pretty close to showroom as you can get, so I know its not aftermarket.

I don't think it does very much other than give a nice contrast at the bottom of your tank so that you can see all the debris that is in there

. The "walls" on the baffle are pretty small so, they might keep you from going lean under a boosted launch for a tenth of a second longer... Before I lowered my truck 2" in the rear, I could launch it at a 1/4 tank with no issues. Now that I am lowered, I start looking for a gas station at 1/2 a tank. Interesting to know how many trucks that don't have this baffle.

Yea thanks Mike, I thought as much  . I stuffed my tank with fuel foam but haven't had a chance to really test it out yet. If it will keep me from going lean with 5 gal. in the tank then it stays, if not then it gets a sump anyway  .
