(Another) Ty wont start.

Gents,

have a issue here and think I have the solution but want to exercise minds greater than mine.

The truck was running fine, have a Moates multi tune set up from Nolan and goosed it around a corner WOT, and after I let off..... dead. Had power, turns over fine, oil pressure good, but nada.

Got it towed home and finally got around to checking things - has spark to plugs, has proper fuel pressure, I have a fuel gauge right off the rail, ~ 30psi on IGN on, ~50psi when turning over. Compression test checks out on all 6 cylinders. When turning over I get rpm flutter on the tach (IGN module good - right?), datamaster confirms this.
I got a noid light from a buddy and ........ nothing. Nolan got me to check that I have 12v on the injector harness when ign is on - check.

Am I looking at a nfg ECU?

On that note, if the consensus is a that I have a dead ECU, anybody in Calgary with a ECU they can loan for a quick test, just to see if the noid fires with a different ECU?

Thanks for any replies.

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

After cranking for a moment do you smell fuel out the exhaust? If the injs are firing then you should. Maybe not immediately but soon. Another quick test is to crank with pedal to the floor. This puts the ECM in flood mood and stops the injs. If you somehow flooded it this might help.

I'm curious why the FB goes up when you crank? IMHO it should stay at 30# or maybe even come down a bit.

Let us know...

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

Thanks Don, I will get at it first thing tomorrow, I thought if the noid light doesn't light up when hooked up to one of the injector plugs though, that means the ecu isn't sending a signal to fire it?

Irregardless, I will check.

Thanks!

Check the ECM B fuse.

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

If EMC B fuse was blown, inj harness wouldn't have 12v, right? This was my problem last year, inj harness was shorting out on rear engine hoist loop and blowing ecm b fuse constantly.

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

Both ECM A and B are intact and checked, Nolan had gotten me to upgrade them, 20A in both. I went and checked all the fuses on the block just for giggles - all good. TPS also looked good on datamaster, I assume it reads properly but I haven't checked it with a meter. Should I?

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

TPS on DM: with just key on, motor stopped, start a log and just watch it. It should progress evenly from idle to FT.

I would check the ecm connections and be sure the chip was seated properly.Does the check engine light come on with key on?

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

Ok, I checked TPS, datamaster shows progression when I press throttle from idle to FT, also the check engine light does come on with the key on, I've taken the ECM connections off a few times and make sure all the clips are locked and all the pins are good.

I would love to get me hands on another ECM just for a quick test............

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

Can you put the factory chip back into the socket bypassing any adapters and turn it over and see if it will fire off. Try unplugging and reseating the chip and parts involved. When you went around the corner hard it may have jarred the computer and moved the harness especially if it was just laying in the glove box sliding around.

Re: (Another) Ty wont start.

I've unseated the moates a few times, and the three main plugs, but I will check if I have the stock chip to plug in and check.
I'll keep you up to speed,
Thanks
