Another Totaled Typhoon

Well, I figured I would share with all of you now that the insurance and everything went through. Two Mondays ago I was coming home from work and the right lane I was in stopped and 5-6 seconds I was watching a Jeep in my rearview coming up pretty fast! I'm guessing he hit me doing 25-30 mph and pushed me into the car in front of me. we exchanged insurance info and I limped the TY home.

The body is quite buckled and the radiator is rubbing, 4 pieces of cladding broken, rear window, the rear corner and the floor in the trunk buckled up pretty bad and smaller buckles around the exterior.

Insurance totaled it, with a $3,000 buy back which I'm not sure if I should do yet. Don't really have to room nor time to part it out. They treated me fair on the value of the truck so when I hand it over I'll get my check. I'm bummed to see it go since it was a fairly clean 93 california truck with 104K miles on it, but just another totaled TY now. Another for Jimmy's Grave Yard.

That's no good man. It always amazes me how inattentive people can be.

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

That sucks!! My opinion I would find a way to keep it.. That looks way to clean to let go..

Is this your bush?
Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

I'd give them $3000 for it and part it out vs letting it go to some scum yard and get crushed. IMO

If I was in your shoes, I'd be buying it back. Even more so if it runs really nice and there's nothing else wrong other than the body work stuff. It looks rust free and there are parts still available to return it back to driver, or for 3k you can part it out and make some money from it.

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

You just got the Sy stolen then this happened? Mate, you are not having a good time of it!

What value did they give you for it? Will they negotiate on the 3k?

You could definitely save that one. Have you it any pics of the engine etc.?

If you part it, you'll get the 3k back but how much would it cost to fix?

Sorry mate - looks like a nice one.

If you were close, I would give you the 3K to get the truck. I have all the parts to fix it.

Code what?
What insurance? And what was the claim estimate to total it? As our trucks get older and values depreciate this will be all our worst nightmare. Sorry to hear about your truck, mine has been hit with over 6k of damage and they didn't total it. I have State Farm.

 Sucks! So sorry to hear and see pics of the aftermath. Glad you are okay, and have the ability to have that tough decision to let it go or buy back. Worst case she goes back together with the blemished title and some time and work. Next she donates her vitals to another Ty in need of the road again or spreads those parts amongst a few. Worst...well none of us want to see that fate.

Depending on what the they gave you as long as the quarter panels and roof are mostly OK I'd fix it.

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

Myself, I would like to see you buy it back and sell it as a hole to one of us on here or fix it and drive it. I would hate to see so many good parts go to wast in a salvage yard.

Sorry for your accident. But to let everyone know that you can get collector car insurance on these trucks,We have that insurance on both our syclone and typhoon and the cost is low for complete collision and if we have a loss the trucks are insured for there true value and not just a s-10 or a blazer. So talk to your insurance agent he should be able to get you the insurance, Hope this info helps everyone.

Re: Another Totaled Typhoon

I thought about fixing it, but theres buckles on both sides between the drivers and passengers windows and the side windows. one above the rear left tire, and another on the roof. Not saying it cant be saved, but I would imagine with how much $$ it would cost to straighten it all out I could buy another with a clean title without having to do all the work. And yes it was a pretty reliable DD, only mechanical problem was the exhaust seals so it would puff smoke upon startup.

I'm insured with Allstate, and the person who hit me was insured with USAA. I went through USAA and they valued the truck at $14,900 (2X what I could sell the truck for) and if I buy it back I get $12,000 since the buyback was $2900.

I just don't particularly have the room to part it out anymore or the time for a post office run every day along with all the deal making. Still have a bunch more time I need to dedicate to my SY but I may find a way to make it work. I'll keep ya all updated on the route I take.
