I went to go race the ty yesterday. I went against a 1 gen DSM and launched at about 6-7 psi. I got about 50-100 ft and it cut out on me. My truck when running has a knock comming from the back of the engine and it wont go in any of the gears including reverse. I checked both of my dipstick for tranny and oil and found metal in both. Pls help me.

If you can't manually shift into any forward gears, then it is the rear clutch (its engauged in all forward gears). If you can shift it manually then its probaly the one-way clutch. Either case requires a r&r. :( Hope this helps.

I can put the shifter into all of the gears. It wont go in reverse or any of the foward gears. And there is a knock toward the front of the tranny.

Sorry, I thought you only lost foreward gears. I agree that it could be the pump. The only way I have heard of checking it is to pull it. To do this you need to drop the trans, pull the TC, then unbolt the pump and get a slide hammer (not sure about the thread size) and pull it out. Make sure you have new pump seals (its also a good idea to replace the front pump seal that goes aroung the trans). If anyone knows a better way to check the pump, please chime in cause my way takes some time to complete.

About the metal in the engine and trans, sorry to say, it sounds like two different problems, the fluids never come close to mixing.

Ummmm..., I like to retract my previous statement. I though about ways to check the pressure after I posted, then realized that there is a plug on the drivers side of the trans that lets you hook up a pressure gauge. You may have to lower the tranny a bit to get the gauge to fit on it. I think Autozone loans them as part of their free rent a tool deal. Make sure the gauge has a max PSI of at least 300. Check the pressures with the engine running, in all ranges. Park, reverse, neutral, drive, and manual second should all be around 75 (I think the spec is 55-145 but not sure). Low (manual 1st) should be around 180 (once again I think the spec is 125-235)

Hope this helps!

You found metal sticking to both dipsticks? Don't start the truck and bang the transmission around any more. The more you bang it, the more you shove metal into the valve body and hard parts(likie your planetaries and sprags). Of course, your forward sprag is probably broken too. Lots of stuff could've been damaged. Doesn't matter what you damaged, the tranny needs to come out. You'll need a new TC also. Your old one is fubar from metal contamination. If you pull the tranny, no point in only fixing the pump(if that's what it is). You can rebuild the whole thing in just a couple of days if you don't go crazy with it like Jesse and I did with ours.

The dipstick doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the pan. If yours has metal on it, there is a LOT of metal in it. When you pull the pan you will say "F@CK". Rebuild kits are cheap. Get a good 2-4 band. Replace the broken hard parts(you will have broken hard parts), and put it back in. Let me say this one last time. DON'T REUSE THE OLD TORQUE CONVERTER. DON'T SAVE MONEY ON THIS PART. DON'T SKIMP OUT AND BUY A USED ONE WITH 200,000 MILES ON IT. GET A NEW (REBUILT) TORQUE CONVERTER.
Sorry about what happened to your truck. I know what it's like to have something go wrong. Ain't fun. Not fun at all.
Try to have a good holiday. If you don't have the money to do it right now, look at the positive side. At least you won't have to drive it in the snow and salt. Hey, I'm trying.
Take care.

DITTO! Unless you like to practice taking transmissions out... Pulled mine the second time because of TC issues in two hours flat by myself. Wanna race sometime Blake after I get more practice  ?
