Re: Another FMIC project

cant help ya there dude. around the plenum takes a bunch more pieces than you have

If the clearance is there. It could be possible to do it with two more 90 degree tubing or one 90 tubing and one 90 coupling.

I don't know. I don't have the stock plenum or fan on my truck so I didn't have to deal with that issue. But I did notice that small amount of space between the alternator and were the fan would be.

But for me personally. I would not want to be cutting on the hood or support.

I cut the support off, a small section of it, and I ended up flattening out the tubing and it fits much better now. It still hits the hood, but not bad.

My suggestion for those that want to do this is to use 2.5" piping instead of 3" if you have the mechanical fan still. It will still flow better over the liguid to air since that intercooler uses a 2" inlet.

Now I just need to have the turbo to intercooler piece made since it's a really tight bend and I want the BOV connection on it as well. Can't wait to get it done.

Your BOV should go closer to the TB.

Ideally you want it close to the turbo. A BOV is meant to protect the turbo from compressor surge mainly.

Actually you want it between the throttle body and the intercooler. Simple reading of instructions can tell you that. Never saw any that said otherwise.

Re: Another FMIC project

There are pros and cons to both positions, Im going to keep it close to the turbo to vent hot air that hasn't passed through the intercooler yet. Being that we have a 4.3L engine, I doubt there is much air reversal going on, so I don't see the need/desire to put it near the TB.

Finally finished mine, I love it so far. It feels a lot more consistent than it did with the stock setup. It cost me about $600 all together since I had to have a piece made.

Any pictures?

Finally putting some pics up. Just an FYI for those that still have the mechaincal fan still, if I had to do it over again, Id use 2.5" tubing but still use the 3" thick intercooler. It will still flow better than the stock 2" intercooler inlet.

did you close the hood? The one i had hit the hood, so i had to move it back.

Mine hit the hood, still does a little bit. I flattened the piping a bit for it to fit better

Re: Another FMIC project

Bringing this back for a quick question:

My radiator is a corvette unit tha'ts moved forward into the rad support with electric fans. Would a method like this still work? Is there room in there for a unit like this? I'd love to try to fit a 4" inter cooler core in there, actually. My truck will have hood pins on it, removing the factory hood release.

I guess I could move the rad back to the stock position also.

darin, where are you planning on putting hood pins? when i did pins on a dirrerent truck than in this thread i used the factory rad mount in front, including hood bumpers. what were you thinking?
