Today began like many other days that some of you may or may not be familiar with; looking at the truck and thinking "everything is running pretty good, so what can I work on?"
I decided to remove the windshield washer tank because I never use it and I thought it would clean up the driver's fender well a little more. After removal, I noticed that there was lots of room over there (I have removed my ABS, cruise, and remote oil filter), so I thought "why not move the coolant tank over to the driver's side to clean up the passenger side a little?".
A couple of hours later, I had a selection of three tanks that were procured from pick and pull, and all were off of Japanese vehicles.
The winner is on the far right in the photo. That tank is from a 1978 Toyota Corolla.
After a little drilling of the bracket:
The bracket was installed in its new home, one of the old studs that used to hold the ABS or something on:
The tank was kind of discolored. I could have just bought a new one, but that would not have been the Cowboy way. I thought to myself "self, why don't you do something cool like Harmon would do, and just paint the tank black?". I know what a lot of you are thinking right now, "you idiot, how are you going to verify the coolant level if the tank is painted black?". Well, after much thought, I decided that I would simply remove the tank lid to check the coolant level: problem solved.
Here is a pic of the final install.
I even managed to score a cool tank cap. I think this adds some "far east mystique" to the truck. Some people pay good money to have Asian symbols installed on their bodies, but I got it on my truck for free. Yes, Ken, I know the lettering is upside down, but as we all know, life is full of compromises.
