annoying hesitation

So I have been running into this problem mostly in the mornings where when I take off from a stop light I get this annoying hestitation. Its almost like the truck cant get enough fuel. The tank can be full or 1/4 tank it doesn't really matter. Mind you this is just regular driving and not balls out stop light to stop light action. It also seems to happen when I slow down to turn and then step on the gas to start coming out of the turn.
I have changed out the plugs with UR5 and running the MSD cap and rotor with the taylor wires. Recently I changed out the fuel pump because I thought it went out. Inadvertently I took out a walbro and replaced it with stock unit and didnt realize until after all was buttoned back up. So at least I still have the pump as a spare. When that didnt solve the problem at hand I replaced the ign module. That fixed the problem then. So I am skeptical of what the problem could be now. All I can do for checking the fuel pressure is when the truck is at idle. Last time I checked it was holding steady at 43lbs.
Any ideas? Maybe a faulty ign module or time to put the walbro back in the tank? Not really looking forward to dropping the tank again. That sucked.

Code what?
Check your timing is at 0* idle with the tan wire disconnected. Distributer could have moved, check for vacuum leaks. Do you have an adjustable fuel regulator? Was your 43psi at idle with the vacuum line off the regulator and plugged? If your vacuum line was on then your fuel pressure is too high. Did you change your fuel filter? All these check out I'd read the plugs

Re: annoying hesitation

This is something that I've been battling for a long time, and this is my last problem right now.

My Ty is similar. Hooked up to tuner pro and found 4 degrees of knock retard while cruising, low vac and 02 milli volts all over. I would hook up some way to read data so you are making an educated decision.
By the way, I'm no tuner or diagnostic guy, but am sold on logging ECM data.

Re: annoying hesitation

Probably not the same issue, but I had an issue of the truck running like shit and stalling out. Come to find out, the file was wrong/corrupted and my fuel tables looked like the damn rocky mountains, so it was cutting/feeding fuel like crazy.

Re: annoying hesitation

Can you log? With truck warmed up and in park IAC position should be in the low 30s. If no and it's off by, guessing, more than 3-5, especially on the low side you'll need to fix that.

If FP is OK, looks like it is, ign module OK? Yup. (IMHO I doubt an ign module will cause a hesitation all else being OK) Recheck timing? Yes, although, again, I doubt that would cause a hesitation if it's close. Just my :2cents: .

It's interesting that you fixed it once by changing the module and now it's back. What was the timeline in all of this? When you changed the module did you put heat transfer grease between it and the dist? Is the dist original?

RE dist moving: Believe it or not when my truck was new to me I went to check the timing and the dist was just sitting there. The hold down was loose. Truck actually ran well. Caution, shade tree mech on the loose.

Lastly, my truck hesitates on "tip in" sometimes but not always. It's minor, I just deal with it. It can be frustrating though. I want everything perfect. Good luck with that.

Fuel filter is being changed today. Its been a while since I last checked the pressure but yeah I didn't unplug the line first. All I did was connect my gauge to the fuel port.

I have DM but my laptop crapped out on me and I only have my desktop right now.
As far as i know the truck is completely stock with the exception of CAI and cat back. I have checked the timing before and it was spot on and yes that was with the wire disconnected first. Im pretty sure that I have false knock from a loose body body bolt. Found a substantial portion of rust under the left foot rest on drivers side right at the body mount so that needs to be seriously addressed. Once I can get my hands on a laptop I will check it out that way. I do have the AEM fuel ratio guage and wO2 but not hooked up. Will have questions on that later.

Re: annoying hesitation

This must be very common to these trucks. Mine had hesitation on tip in also. By watching the WB I noticed it would go super lean. I also have a Scanmaster 3 to monitor the other things and all were near optimal. I figured it was fuel related so I adjusted the FP both ways with no improvement. So I decided to try the same with the timing. This had a major effect on the hesitation. With about 5* retarded with tan wire unplugged the hesitation was horrible. I adjusted the base timing to 5* advanced which eliminated all hesitation but would cause excessive KR under boost. I currently have timing adjusted to 0* and have a slight hesitation. New ignition parts help initially (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) but fade with time. HTH

One thing to check is that the balancer ring hasn't spun and the timing mark is still right. Mine is about 2 degrees off.

Re: annoying hesitation

The Sy/Ty's are known to have a hesitation In accordance with Kenne Bell. The part that would fix this problem was to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator & increase the fuel pressure.

This was one of the first mods I did to my Syclone & it had a hesitation, after I installed an adjustable F.P.R .& raise the fuel pressure up, this hesitation my Sy had, went completely away.

Re: annoying hesitation

Well as i was going over my truck this afternoon, I replaced the fuel filter and that helped tremendously. I had replaced it about a 1 1/2 years ago I guess. Guess it was time again. Another thing I found while going over the eng this evening was a spark plug wire was resting on the downpipe and had burned the insulation off of it. Got that all taken care of. Willl update tomorrow after I get home from work. That is if I remember. Got a ton of stuff going on right now.

Im hoping my FAST setup will fix this. Ill replace my fuel filter and see if that helps, it is 3 years old.

Re: annoying hesitation

yeah well as much as i would love to try and tackle something like the big stuff 3, the funds just aren't there rite now. well even with the wire off of the dp thing is still acting up. as soon as i can sell off something i will be investing in a scanmaster just so i can see what it is doing at all times. DM is good but a little hard to manage a laptop while daily driving.
