Alternator and wiring

I am in the process of upgrading to an AD244 alternator. I bought the CS to AD adapter pigtail, got it all mounted but it does not charge. I connected the S terminal back to the alternator output thinking that may be it. I have 12v at the F terminal but no voltage to L. Should I have some voltage on L?

Re: Alternator and wiring

Yes this is what I needed. So I need power on L with resistance in line. Currently have power on F so I can switch those 2 and add a resistor. So my next question is, since the Ty harness has only 2 wires F and L where do these wires go to in the truck?

Re: Alternator and wiring

Thanks for the help Dave. I thought for a minute I would ohm out the brown wire to see how much resistance it had. I know some of the old GM vehicles used to have resistance wires for some stuff. Well anyways I got a 1/2 watt 470 ohm resistor from Radio Shack wired it inline with L to the pink wire and everything is charging as it should. Going to be installing efans soon and eventually a 2500 watt RMS stereo. This one is supposed to be 250 Amps. Cant wait to fully test it out.

Re: Alternator and wiring

So when the original alternator craps out, is this the 'way to go', or are there other options for these trucks. I presume looking at the pic, it is a straight forward bolt on, obviously I mean bolt on with the wiring mods detailed. I haven't searched, I was just flicking through todays posts and saw this one, so thought I'd ask the question.
