Re: alpine receiver
i guess the follow is all dependent upon the condition of your typhoon and what you are willing to do to it. You will need a cage and trim ring and instal kit. thats a given. But if you dont like the look of the deck being all pushed out, even with the extension mentioned above, you can take a heat gun to the plastic vent tubing beind the radio. The plastic tubes feed the vents above the radio, if you dont mind modifying this area then do the following,
1 remove all trim and removable parts from the area.
2 protect all wires that cant be removed with a heat sheild of some sort,
3 grab you a decent heat gun, have a hammer handy( substitute other large tool if you like), have fire saftey equip handy as well just in case.
4 heat the plastic up, it will take some serious heat to melt this plastic, but dont heat it so long that it is running or burning thru, just enough to make it workable.
5 once it is heated up, grad the head of the hammer, using the handle end to push againt the plastic, apply pressure and manipulate the plastic to your liking. do not push it with your hands, it does burn!
6 repeat as many times as necc.
Note, if you do happen to poke thru the plastic dont worry too much, just make sure to patch the hole so that your A/C and heat arent blowing directly onto the alpine unit.
I was able to stuff my flip out dvd screen in the stock location and have the front edge of my cage flush with the install kit without an extension, the dvd in my truck is probably and inch or 2 deeper than your unit so you wont have to molsd the plastic as much.
Just an option.
Be careful if you choose to do this!
